Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

16 Trail 35k miles
P265/75/17 Grabber AT2 on Pro wheels. 1" spacer lift, 1.25" wheel spacers.

I've been tracking fuel consumption since day 1. Average 18.2mpg. 70% highway. I rarely exceed 80mph.

The fuel mileage dropped slightly when the current suspension and wheel/tire setups were installed after a few thousand miles on the factory setup.

With my current set up (E-rated 275/70R17s, slight lift), I'm averaging only around 15 on the highway.

It's all very dependent on wind and speed. A few months back I was driving across New Mexico with boxes on my rack and into a stiff headwind. I got a jaw-dropping 8 mpg for a stretch.

Was on my way back from Santa Fe to Houston recently.....for about 150 miles with the wind and downhill I got 21 MPG. Running 285/70/17 Toyo's. Real world MPG ave is around 17.

Best number I've seen recently on my rig was 19mpg. Cruise control at 68 after 20min of driving. I get 15ish when I drive off of the highway.

That's strange. I also have an AFE CAI, but your tire size should equal better mileage. However, if your KO2's are E load they are very heavy and "may" be a factor. I got rid of my E load KO2's for the C load Ridge Grapplers and wish I would of started with them.

I also have a Sprint Booster, which depending on how you drive, can improve overall mileage, but just by a little. Maybe that's the trick... but who knows.
Just picked up a Sprint booster, from what I read it seems it could help. I'm desperate!

As usual, I reset the on board MPG meter at the gas station. Pulled out of the gas station on an empty road with a slight down hill. When I crossed the bridge the MPG meter read 27.2 mpg. :girl:

Alas, when I got home, it was back to it's usual 18.7 mpg.

lol, want to see it with some crazy numbers? Turn the key on, DON'T start the motor, then put in neutral and coast for a bit, that is if the gas station is set up where you can coast out of the pump area.

It’s really inconsistent. I’ve had several 4Runner rentals and I drove them like I stole it and have had up to 22 mpg. On my personal 4Runner I drive like Grandpa and I get 15.

Here’s my Fuelly report from my 2019 TRD ORP.

SR5 with TRD Pro wheels and tires lift/leveling kit TRD intake and Pedal Commander on city +2
I average anywhere between 16-18 city-highway combined depending on how I drive.

My 4Runner’s life started with a 600 mile freeway trip home, so I started my daily routine at 20.8 MPG.

After 1 month of my usual mixed driving, I’m sitting at 18.3 on the computer, although I just put on 265/70/17 C Ridge Grapplers so I might lose a little from the added rolling resistance and weight.

Fuelly.

Chk it out. Let’s you keep track of service history, etc. you can also look up any model car/truck and see all the real world reported mpgs.

Averaging right at 17..my commute to work is 6 1/2 miles, all surface roads..Unless I take a road trip 90% of my driving is non-highway..
