Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

Dobinsons lift. Falken 275/70/17 on SCS stealth wheels

17.7 MPG to and from work and around town.

19 MPG out on the highway

Stock 2019 ORP with sprint booster (green 7). I get high 17s to low 18s with nearly 50/50. My first 1K miles I didn't reset the avg mileage and it rarely budged from 17.7 once it settled.

Fuelly.

Chk it out. Let’s you keep track of service history, etc. you can also look up any model car/truck and see all the real world reported mpgs.

I checked Fuelly on Android marketplace getting super bad reviews apparently since aCar bought it. People say was great before but now need a second very clumsy app to look up past fillups? There are two apps by Fuelly in the Android marketplace... Fuelly Web App which is where the bad recent reviews are and aCar - Car Management, Mileage app which has better reviews. Anyone know the real difference between the two and what happened to Fuelly recently??

'19 TRD Pro (stock) - started at 10.0 with 10 miles on the odometer. Currently just over 900 miles and up to 16.5. I've been steadily gaining about 0.1mpg every couple days. Commute is ~12 miles, mostly highway.

So Fuelly aside, I plugged all my Gas receipts for first year of ownership in spreadsheet and came up with a terrible 14.812 average miles per gallon on 451.759 Gallons for my 2018 CavBlue TRD Pro 4runner as of 6691 miles on ODO.

A few facts.... My rig is obviously LOW mileage because we use smaller car with better mileage and easier parking for most family outings. I live in Seattle and bought the rig last June 2018. We had an exceptionally hot summer and have had a dryer hotter spring/summer this year. I drive mostly 14 mile round trips to work down residential street and 5 miles on freeway each day. I've taken 4-6 road trips. On the average fill ups on my commuting schedule I get a measly 13-14 MPG. On my extended road trips (note with Yakima Skybox for 300 miles between Seattle and Oregon) I get 15-16 MPG. I made one experimental freeway trip for 100 miles roundtrip to see what optimal mileage I could achieve in ideal conditions keeping the ECO meter happy with sheepish pedal work, etc and the very best I was able to muster on this unusual outing was 20.489 mpg.

SO average short daily commute for 7 miles yields just shy of 14 mpg... normal freeway road trip yields mid 15 MPG … and best I can get by driving in a way no normal person would is 20mpg.

I see so many posts here about 17mpg average dailey drive and 20+ on freeway trips. Is there possibly something askew with my 2018 TRD Pro or is it possibly my driving program and habits? I am by no means a jackrabbit starter at lights or heavy speeder or breaker but not a granny driver either. I use mid grade gas (I know you don't need to but always have because it gives me zen feeling)

Thoughts?

JC

Still averaging over 19. Sitting at 19.1 mpg. Stock except for TRD intake with K&N filter. Mix of 50/50 highway/city driving. 18k miles since I reset the calculator.

Are you sure its a 4runner?

That is about what I have, Daily driver: current tank is 20.5 mpg.

Truck is lifted with AT tires, I believe i lost about 1 mpg after lift and tires (70-80% of that loss came from AT tires)
And yes, it is the 4Runner... and since I have early gen of Trail edition- it is actually true 4Runner... or as much 4Runner as it can be in 5th gen LOL

So driving like grandpa got me 20. One week driving normal and got 17. I'm happy with that, my truck got 13 with same driving habit.
Just turned 1k miles, are runners like other cars, will mileage get better with more miles?

I got 18 mpg with normal driving. My Ram got 15 all the time. I only drive around town with no highway so maybe it could do better if I was traveling but I don't really care.

I feel the same way! Hahaha if I was concerned about MPG I would have bought a Prius! Hahaha plus there are enough Prius and Tesla out on the road saving the environment that my 4Runner shouldn’t cause too much damage

Sorry to bump my own post but didn't get any comments on this and seems like yet more people are reveling in their 17-21 MPG averages. Anyone in same boat as me? I have no mods on my rig that should negatively impact mileage. Thanks.

According to Fuelly, my 3 month average is 17.6 mpg at 55% city. I typically see 15.x in town, and the best I see in the highway is about 20 (w/cruise, at ~60 mph). When I run 70-75 it drops to 18 mpg.

Damn dude, you're almost in the H2 Hummer territory. What does your instrument cluster say on the avg range? Mines normal around 17/21.

Searched and saw this...

I'm only a few hundred miles in, but the display (and math at the pump) is saying I'm getting 14 with mostly city driving. The funniest part is, I thought I was babying the throttle too. I was excited to check what my mpg would be, thinking it would be some amazing 18 or so that I could gloat about. Nope. A good old solid 14. I'm hoping that increases over time.
