Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

Damn dude, you're almost in the H2 Hummer territory. What does your instrument cluster say on the avg range? Mines normal around 17/21.

Searched and saw this...
https://www.motortrendenespanol.com...17-toyota-4runner-trd-pro-instrument-cluster/

My cluster gives same as my computation 14-15 range. I wonder if it is worth bringing up as potential warranty issue? There is at least a few others who report mileage as poor as mine but the vast majority are 17-20 which is what the EPA sticker says on the new rig. I wonder as without modification I am getting consistently 3MPG worse than the lower end of that range if that is something that would be investigated and addressed as a warranty issue. Anyone else ever take their rig in on warranty claim for lower than average fuel economy?

Been using mine for a couple of weeks, just been leaving on green 5 and have noticed that my usual MPG has gone from 17.5 to 18.3 or so... I usually do not gun it too often, but the new times I have I did notice that it had a little more pep. Would probably help if I went to the red.

JWM816 - That's awesome! I don't mention the gas mpg gains when selling the Sprint Booster because that's not where the real advantage is, but that's just super cool if it's helping! Thanks for the feedback.

Burtman Industries Sprint Booster, ON SALE, and you can send it back if you don't like it!

This video makes this easy to understand. YouTube video on sprint booster Watch just the first 3 min.

Ahh now I get it. I don't really know if this product does anything in terms of A/F ratio but... I'm having a hard time linking both performance and fuel economy together.

Will you go on the record and claim this product will actually get you better fuel economy? In conjunction to better performance??

150 miles trip through with lots of hills/mountains. I got 20.5mpg on the gauge with 3 adults and 2 kids plus camping gear.

2015 limited
Daystar leveling kit
Prinsu full roof rack
265/70/17 Falken wildepeaks at 40psi

My city mpg is about 15.5mpg.

That’s why I’m showing what real customers have posted on this forum that have it. I have a 3rd gen so I can’t comment for myself but customers with this in 4th and 5th gens (they all have drive by wire with the delay in throttle) have seen mileage spike.

see post here by jwm816, I'll try to dig other ones up Sprint Boosters 5th gen forum posts, gas mileage gain

And this video talks about the mileage gain: YouTube Sprint Booster compairison

I’ve now sold 100 of these just for 5th gens. Which is insane and this seems to be a good eater egg with the mileage.

Jason B has a 3rd gen,so I do not think he is able to speak to it directly, but I have seen a decent gain, it may take some time, but it will eventually pay itself off in gas savings. I just did a mainly highway trip and got up to 18.6, though I was speeding... My daily commute is 10% surface and was averaging 17.5.

Butt dyno does not count as valid. Too many variables at play. Road conditions, percentage of city vs highway, tire pressure, air temp, cleanliness of intake filter, perceived change, etc...

3rd Gen, 5th gen... Regardless of generations, it all works the same right? This product gives better throttle response, which i think is pretty cool. That I get. What i don't get is how does it save you gas? What does it do physically to burn/use less fuel?

What I'm asking as a potential customer is, will you agree with your customer's claim that this product does indeed gives better fuel economy? Are there any data backing up this claim?

If it was mainly highway trip, you should have gotten better range than 18.6. Before I lifted my truck and mounted bigger tires (3" lift + 285/75/17 Ridge Grapplers) I got between 17 to 20mpg. Right now I'm getting exactly whar you're getting at 18.6 lol. If I do mostly city driving now I would not be surprised if I get 15mpg.

Awesome! Thanks for chiming in. That's cool, before any sprint booster your vehicle was 17.5 and now 18.6. Very cool. Not everyone knows their truck or watches and see what's they are really getting. I've just had more and more people tell me examples like yours above.

In theory yea, but a 3rd gen doesn't have drive by wire. Again, drive by wire creates a big delay in the 5th gen 4Runner, it's worse than the 4th gen, much worse.

When you have more control over the throttle you are able to keep it out of overdrive which causes the motor to press usually past 3000 RPMs in the midst of a down shift. With more control of the throttle you can keep yourself in a higher gear at a lower RPM therefore using less gas at a higher speed
That’s how the throttle control / gas usage balance works
68mph @ 2600rpm (4th gear) might get you 18mph where as 72 2000 rpm (5th gear) would likely earn you closer to 20mph.

Buy it, try it. If you don't like it, you can return it. I make it easy. I've sold hundreds of these and now almost weekly I'm hearing a easter egg benefit of the mileage bump.

I had my SR5 just about a month with about a 1000 miles of mixed freeway and city driving. Sadly, my average is 16.5 at the moment. Almost bone stock, 2 wheel drive, stock tires, and I'm not a pedal masher. Hopefully it'll get better as it breaks in.

Mine is nearly identical miles, mpg, and driving style, but I have 4wd. Also hoping for improvement.

So, I just returned from vacation in my '15 SR5. Almost 1300 miles and the computer says 20.4 mpg. Across the mountains of WV, loaded with 2 bikes on the Kuat, 2 adults and gear for a week. On the way down to NC, computer showed 21.2. Drove around the beach towns all week and back home to average out 20.4. I was really pleased with this mileage.

Ok that actually make sense when you think about it. As I mentioned in my previous post I'm getting right about 1 more mpg highway!

Cool, sounds logical enough I think. What I meant was, are there any data from a computer linked to OBD to read how much fuel is consumed from point A to point B.

If it wasn't so expensive (to me)for what it does, I would have ordered one just for the heck of it. To get a bit more pep.

Right now after 3" lift and 285, I got 18.6 mix. I expect the reading to go down though after a couple fill ups.

Sorry to bump my own post but didn't get any comments on this and seems like yet more people are reveling in their 17-21 MPG averages. Anyone in same boat as me? I have no mods on my rig that should negatively impact mileage. Thanks.

Prior to doing the TRD intake upgrade, 19.8 was about the best I could do as an average. After, I am getting a touch over 21.
On a recent 1.5 hour drive from my daughter's place, I filled up before returning home and got 23.1 on the computer on the way home, so about 22.8 actual, doing 65 on a hilly country 2 lane for an hour, and a 4 lane for about a half hour.
Drove back there and home yesterday with a 5x8 Uhaul, and it dropped to 19.3, so I'm gonna guess it's gonna be around 18.9/19 when I fill up if I don't do any more driving anything over 5 miles before I fill up,
Anything that puts more drag on the vehicle is going to hurt you MPG, especially anything that sticks up from the roof, no matter how aerodynamic it may look.
Also, they type of city driving matters. Lots of starts/stops, long red lights, driving under 25-30 mph is going to have a negative effect.
Also, short drives also have a detrimental effect. been making a lot of 1.5 mile trips each way to my folks house since my mom got out of the hospital a few weeks ago, and that kills the MPG.
I use Fuelly to track my MPG, because it's cheap and easy.

Winter time kills the MPG. When it idle's when I start it in the morning after resetting the MPG gauge it will read 12mpg.

What is the ideal cruising speed for the best mileage? I'm consistently getting 14 mpg and I'm thinking it's due to inclines on the highways.
