Really bad scratches on hood =/ help?

The damn cat, or SOMETHING, scratched the you know what out of my hood. It's awful, i tried a billy mays scratch remover/filler, sort of worked, but didn't really do the job. got it machine waxed, didn't really help either... does ANYONE have a remedy? besides a paint job.

Get a DA Buffer/Polisher

DA = Dual Action

The popular one is the Porter Cable DA.

I've been meaning to get one. I have bunch of scratches from offroading.

Can you feel it with your fingernail? If you can, it'll require a respray. Buffing can't fix that.

A DA is primarily for getting rid of swirls in the clear coat. It won't help if the base coat is affected.

Not necessarily true. There are several coats of clearcoat on a car and it is possible to scratch into it enough to catch a fingernail. You can try to wetsand the spots if they are too deep to polish. You can also fill them with clearcoat and then wetsand/polish them.

Wetsand? Clearcoat? This sounds promising, can you give me more details?

No problem. If that doesn't work for you just get it repained. Being almost 6 years old I'm sure your hood has chips and other damage as well? However, if you fill the scratches you can fill the chips also. Also try Langka. It works rather well. Pretty time consuming though.
