rear axel seal done but now truck shakes

The rear drums are side specific, your ebrake wont be able to hook up otherwise. Did the shop unpress/press the bearings themselves or have someone else do it? It's possible that the operation of installing a new bearing could have caused damage to the hub and warped it. That's honestly the only thing I can think of.

The drums are identical, no left/right. The shoes are right/left specific, is that what you meant? That should become obvious if you try to install them backwards.

Good to know about the side specific drums. My mechanic did the bearings himself. I don't know the details but it must have been more problematic then anticipated because he mentioned something about having to heat things up? I didn't fully understand this part. Since the shake does not occur now with swapping the drums does that eliminate your theory of the hub being warped?

I would make sure he machines/turns both drums. I believe the actual brake drum is interchangeable on both sides. Sounds like one is slightly warped.

If you were going to go to the scrap yard and get a spare hub assembly (containing everything from axle down to brakes) yes it would be side specific while some parts on/in the assembly are not. The actual drum, is not side specific. Sorry bout that. I thought that he meant the mechanic took the entire assemblies and swapped sides. While it would work for every day purpose, the ebrake would not. I currently have a passenger side assembly on my drivers side. I just have not had the time or care to fix it, but I have to deal with not having an ebrake. One of these days I'll fix it.
