Rear Axle / bearing problem

Seeking a bit of advice before I start dismantling...
My 2000 runner has encountered a problem. After wheeling around last weekend, I started getting some severe vibration from the rear left tire. Taking a look at it while driving it got so bad that it seemed to be wobbling laterally while moving. Felt like the damn thing was going to pop off! After parking and taking a look something is def wrong. The left tire is considerably pushed out further than it should be, and is even off the brake a bit. Pictures to follow. I included the right side to show the difference between the two. So... broken axle or axle bearing is the current and best guess. All opinions welcome, thanks guys.

that's deff not right, looks like your bearing got pressed out of the backing plate. sucks cuz thats gonna be expensive.

upgrade to what?

I wouldn't drive on that again without pulling the axle out and taking a look first. If you jack the affected side way up you can pull it without losing any gear oil. It's just 4 bolts on the backing plate, the ebrake cable, and a brake line to disconnect.

Chromo's I am assuming?

It is pretty rare to see a failure like this on the Toyota axles.....happens all the time with the C-clip retained Dana axles.

No I'm def not driving on it at all. It can stay put for a bit without being too much hassle for me.
Ah, as far as upgrading to what I'm not sure yet. I haven't had a ton of free time since this all went down. Open to any suggestions! A friend had suggested some that these guys have : Trail-Gear | Toyota, Suzuki Samurai, and Jeep Off Road Parts.
Any thoughts welcome and appreciated. Going to be ordering something by Tuesday and hopefully doing the work this following weekend.

Wheel Bearing is shot.. bet that 100%. same thing happened to me a few months ago while i was driving down the highway at 65 mph and it let go thought my wheel was gonna come flying past me. scary feeling. Just pull the axle out and see what your working with first, its a joke to do. then go from there. probably only going to need to order a wheel bearing and seals. I just got mine pressed off and on at a buddy's shop and then put it back in myself. saved me a lot of cash!

If you have to buy the bearing, buy a genuine bearing. Genuine bearing feels loose but once it is in the axle it turns slightly tighter. All the aftermarket bearings feel tight before pressing into the axle, but after pressing into the axle, the bearing is quite tight if you try to turn it by hand.
