Rear backup sensors

About to take an earlier than expected delivery of my 4R.. was going to add on rear backup sensors. I know that it comes with a camera, but I was so used to the sensors on my tacoma DCLB that I actually like them better.. plus more assistance when I let the wife drive...
I just read that the 4R comes with an integrated beep sensor... good, or is it crap? Just don't know if I need to add something that is perfectly fine as it is...

FYI: trail premium.. no, I have not seen the vehicle. I am buying through my sister and her in-law so I can take advantage of a discount... no need to test drive, I know I want it, and have done a 12 hour road trip in a '14 rental.

This^^ Im pretty sure that the trail premium doesn't have any parking assist as far as sensors or a beeper noise

I agree with the OP, - prefer the backup sonar I had on my FJ, rather than the camera on my Runner. Only comes in the Limited edition.
You can add after-market sensors, but I don't know if they are any good. I am considering adding them in addition to the rear view camera.
Perhaps someone has already done that, and will chime in .........

Yep, only the Limited has them. I'm having them installed tomorrow on my SR5. They'll be color matched so they should look great. I've had sensors since 2005 and I really like them, I had them installed on my wife's car last year as well, good insurance. Cheers!

I would think that Toyota builds similar to other brands in that if you get the correct OEM parts, you could add it. I would think that you may need a few additional wire harnesses too. The downside it you may have to upgrade your back up camera system if you want the screen where the boxes curve right or left based on how your tires are turned.

Look into adding EchoMaster Sensors. they are great aftermarket sensors. Ford uses them for their OE solution

Thanks for all the replies while I slept. Lol Hawaii time... yeah I figured the trail wouldn't come with it. I'll have the dealer do it so its color matched on the sides and they need to go through the bumper cover in the middle.

I know the new standard is cameras in all vehicles, but the sensors do help a lot. Will definitely post some pictures as soon as I take delivery

I have "sonar" in my 2012 SR5 with Premium package (no backup camera). I can park using sensors "beeping" and based on the sound I can judge the distance from the wall behind. But the real live saver is on the public parking lot when someone decides to pull up from my blind spot at the same time when I'm backing up. The loud "beep" at the moment when I don't expect it gets my attention very fast. I wish I have a backup camera too but as addition to sonar sensors, not as a replacement.

I have parking sonar on my SR5 with Nav and EnTurd. Granted, its a 2013.

K... I was starting to wonder why some had and some dont. That makes sense that they don't include it now, or its only on the limiteds.... but why???

As some said, yes the camera is a better "rear view mirror", but is some idiot just wants to charge behind you, at least the beeps will get your attention.....

If you're using the camera or mirrors to backup and not turning around then you're doing it all wrong.

Turning around doesn't help when you are parked between two SUVs - you can't see see the car which may be pulling behind you on either side. This is why I love to park my ass first, but unfortunately it is not available everywhere, and in some places it is illegal to park like that.

I always back in, and don't give a shit. It is much safer that way from both pedestrian and other vehicles perspective. if it is a slanted space, then at least you only have to worry about one direction of traffic unless the idiots are going the wrong way.
