Rear bounce with passengers

This weekend I picked up three buddies and drove us all to the golf course in my 3rd gen and I experienced an issue that has never come up before in my six years of ownership.

What is happening is the rear would keep bouncing up and down if I hit even the slightest dip in the road. Between passenger size and weight of clubs I was probably carrying 800lbs more of cargo compared to when I typically drive it. When it's just me behind the wheel the suspension feels stiff, so I'm wondering what this bouncing could be a symptom of? Everything is stock suspension wise @162k miles, 1999 with tall coils.

New rear shocks are in order I suspect.
 
That's weird, when I load 800-1,000#s of feed in back seat/rear hatch area, I get the Sweetest ride, no stiffness or bounciness and my suspension only drops 1" in the rear (and I've got an '01 with Original suspension and nearly 282k miles).

I'd say check your shocks (any leaks). Luck and enjoy the runner. :cowboy:

The bottom bolt is easy (17mm btw).

The uppers are impossible to get off if they are rusted (like they usually are). When I did mine, I bent the shock back and forth to break the top stud off. Some people like to cut the top of the shock with a sawzall. Hopefully, yours won't be too rusty with those low miles. Getting the new nut on at the top is easy if you have ratcheting wrenches.

As Chuckles89 said, if they are original you can probably wiggle them back and forth and the top bolt will break and you can pull them out. Other wise you will need to cut them off. That top mounting situation in the rear sux.
Mine were pretty easy to wiggle back and forth til the broke.
 
Yeah, everyhone says shocks...I'm saying find some new "golf" buddies with different clubs. But thats just me....hahahaha
