Rear brake pads cracking

Hello all,

I wanted to consult this fourm and see if anyone else has had this issue or maybe it is a possible result of my brake calipers. I have a 05 v8 4x4. From Socal. No rust.

Few months ago when I was messing around with a hydro bump install on my truck I noticed the rear brake pads and they had cracks going through the thickness of the pad from the backing. I ended up replacing the rotors with brand new ADVICS rotors and pads from rockauto. I also did the parking brake shoes while I was at it. But the other day I was installing some new rear upper and lower links and I noticed that it appears my rear brake pads are starting to crack again the same way as before. The brakes work just fine and I have no issues stopping. But I am not sure what is going on now. I'm thinking about getting all new calipers in the rear and front. I think this time I might do the Akebono pads this time. I go off roading a lot and I would say I am decently hard on the brakes. Not sure if the pads maybe are just not up for the task. But it's kind of annoying that they are brand new pads cracking already. Wanna see what y'all think

Did you take photos on behicle and after removal?
Very strange-never heard of this?
But I always use OEM pads and parts .

I've never seen it before but heard about it. Could be a number of reasons, but the number 1 reason seems to be crappy quality pads from the manufacturer.

If they are deep, you'll need to replace them. But try to diagnose why it's happening. Are all the pads wearing evenly? Do they have any slanted wear? Might be some air in your brake line.

If the pads are cracked, contact rockauto request warranty replacement. But buy better pads. Even overheated pads should not separate or fracture. i used AKEBONO. Of course check to make sure your caliper pistons retract easily. If not they might be seized or seizing.

The pads are essentially brand new. I don't think they even have like 7k miles on them yet. But they are not slanted in any wear and are worn evenly. They are still thick cause they are new. I don't think there's any air in my lines. Brake pedal isn't squishy. I think maybe the ADVICS pads are just no good. ADVICS is supposed to be the toyota "OEM" brand, the one who makes the pads for them. But it's a toss up whether or not its akeobono or ADVICS. ADVICS is apart of the toyota corporation. I think i will just replace the calipers front and rear lol. It's probably about that time anyways. 180K on them. The front's are squeaking too.

The only time I've seen this is if the pads are binding in the calipers. They should slide somewhat freely in the grooves that have the stainless hardware. Sometimes you have to remove some paint from the pads to get them to be correct. Up here, rust jacking will make them stick.

I once had new rear brake pads on my Pilot go from expected (and prior pad life) 60,000 miles to 17,000 miles with 1mm inside passenger side.
By chance I was rotating tires and noticed. I purchased from an onlne retailer of Honda parts.
Fortunately I still had the boxes for both -the 60k and 17k. Careful comparison revealed the new (good price) pads had differences in the blue Honda logo and other labels. The pad metal backing plate had small differences too.
Seems they were counterfit!
Eversince all my parts are from dealerships.
And I still keep old/prior packaging for checking.
Perhaps Rockauto got a defective pad batch or worse counterfit.
