rear brakes? shoes?

i have 05 4runner limited edition.

Looking at my rear brakes,
when i look through the rims. I see regular pads on the rotors.
Under the rotors, are the brake shoes pads on the 4runner?
if so, do all 4runners have this?

A lot of cars with rear disc brakes have a brake drum on the inside of the rear rotor hats with a brake shoe setup for the e-brake. I haven't looked at my 4th gen to see how it is done, but that is probably what you are seeing.

Yes. The pad and shoe form is pretty popular for the parking brake and I do believe that is what the 4runner has.

Clarification on terminology.

Brake Pads go on Disc brakes.

Brake Shoes...go on Drum brakes.

And yes the 4runner has a rotor/disc brakes (with pads) to do the normal stopping...and for the parking/emergency brake it has a drum brake (with shoes).
