Factoryride kindly asked me for the dimensions of the rear cargo steel support I had made. So here is my attempt. This support was designed to hold the weight of the cargo draws allowing you full access to the slide out tray equipped with some of our 4runners
Many people here have removed there slide out tray as it does take up some precious cargo space. However, I have found mine useful enough to keep it in. Therefore I built around it.
I would like to disclose that this WHOLE idea/project comes from Seattle Mike who sadly is no longer with us and in a better place. With that said this cargo setup from the get-go has always been in his honor.
The support consists of 1" square steel tubing throughout. It is mounted using the four tie down factory locations (trail edition for certain not sure about sr5 and LE)
These are the front two support feet (hatch area) They are bolted down using the factory 10mm bolt and location. The legs stand 5" tall. I dremeled a notch to keep the plastic covers.
This is the rear support feet. I removed the rear cargo cubbie as it was useless to me. Again these just bolt straight to factory location using the 10mm bolt. The feet stand 3" tall.
You will have to play a little bit with feet to get the clearance right.
The overall platform measures:
42.5" W x 29" L x 1"H (not including feet)
My cargo draws are made using 15mm baltic birch. Joints are dovetail which are glued with additional wood screws. The draws simply slide open and close with waxed oak strips. The draws are held closed with household window locks. The handles where given to me and are spring loaded.
Hope this helps to those who are looking to do a similar setup.
