rear coolant leak, NOT rear coolant bypass block...

I'm having a really BAD coolant leak in the rear of the engine on the passenger side. I know its not the coolant bypass block in the rear, I changed all the hoses and looked carefully for any leaks. it seems to be coming from just under the cylinder head above the exhaust crossover, or just around it. I'm getting coolant on the exhaust cross over and its smoking. also, I get under the truck, and I can see coolant just p*ssing down from my transmission and slip yolk... I don't know where its coming from, I can't get a good look. I'm wondering if the coolant pipe that runs directly under the intake manifold is leaking. but again, I'm not sure, I don't see anything wet in that area, its coming from closer to the passenger side and closer to the exhaust cross over. if anyone has an idea, I'd sure greatly appreciate it. Also, I've did a search here and google and can't seem to find much.

Head gasket? What side of the head is it coming from inner (closest to the intake) or outer (closest to the exhaust manifold?

I don't think its coming from the head gasket... I just had the head gasket replaced by a mechanic, and I happen to know he's a good mechanic. it seems to be coming from just below the head gasket, closer to the firewall... I had the exhaust crossover pipe wrapped with heat wrap and the coolant is leaking onto that and when I go under the truck I can see it just pissing down onto my front drive shaft... and it seems to leak the most when I turn the truck off, though it does leak while the truck is running... it drains my radiator almost completely... I'm really getting frustrated. fml.

my passenger side floor mats are COMPLETELY soaked also, and smells like coolant, I wonder if this is connected...

Could be your heater core or the hoses for the heater core.

I've already bypassed the heater core... its coming from closer to the passenger side firewall... I attached a pic from where I think the leak is coming from (hopefully I attached it correctly).

Coming from a freeze plug maybe? Sorry I'm just guessing. And don't know what you have check and haven't.

i've re-sealed with RTV and new gasket, the coolant bypass block behind the engine under the intake, i've RTV one side of the U shaped hose that goes into it. i'm looking all around that area, but i don't know if there is another coolant line i'm missing... i don't think its the hardline that runs through the center of the block just under that intake. the leak is coming from somewhere right behind the bypass block, or just to the left of it, on the passenger side. maybe its the other end of the U shaped hose...??? i did notice it buldging but i didn't see any wetness coming from that area, so i'm not sure. i'm going to take the other end of the U shaped hose off and use RTV and heat shrink hosing around it and try to seal it better, maybe that'll do it. it'll at least eliminate the coolant bypass block completely...

found the leaking... the hoses that attach to the coolant bypass block behind the engine underneath the intake plenum are leaking, everytime i fix one leak another springs up...lol but i think i'll have the issues completely fixed tomorrow. i've used RTV inside each hose and on the actually metal piping that comes out to seal the leaking... and of course tightend the C-clamps (not to tightly of course). i'll be going on to the final hose tomorrow and hopefully stop this leaking nonsense...

I have the same issue with mine. do you know what the tube underneath is called? or where I can get it? is it only a dealer part?

which tube/hose are you talking about? there is a coolant bypass block on the back of our engines where 2 or 3 hoses go to. its a PITA to get to though.

cameron, if you're talking about the metal coolant tubes that run just under the upper manifold, i believe they are a dealer item... however, if you go to your local pull a part, you might be able to score one. i've heard and read that those things go bad easy if water has been used... let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
