Rear Defroster/rear wiper not working

do you have your rear window all the way up? wiper/defroster won't work if window isn't up all the way.

Just joined this forum so that I could say THANK YOU! I was tripping that my rear stuff wasn't working on my brand new rig! My rear window was open a tiny bit. Must have hit the switch by accident.

My situation....familiar to many, installed rear view camera, disconnected rear ECU, couldn't figure out why rear latch didn't work, rear defroster didn't work.

While installing I nicked a wire in the harness at the tailgate, it sparked....that bothered me, did I blow a fuse? Checked most all fuses.

Did the battery disconnect trick, worked for the tailgate! Still didn't have the Defroster, or rear wiper.

Read the forum,

did the window down, window up trick...worked!

BTW, i also taped the nicked wires even though I couldnt see any copper.

Same issue

A while back I had changed my stereo and ever since then my rear wiper, defroster and window will not work. I don’t believe it’s a fuse issue and I’ve read multiple posts saying to reset the wiper because your window won’t work if it’s not positioned properly. But it is positioned properly and I’m running out of ideas and patience

Well, I am now 3 for 3 in getting things "fixed" on my 4runner in the past week because of this forum. First, I fixed my heater (faulty blend door actuator), then I cleared my VSC TRAC lights off my dash and now I have my rear wiper working again. The last item was the easiest to correct and like many others have shared, the solution was simply cycling the rear window down and back up.
I am thankful for this forum and all those who contribute to it!

for some reason this morning my rear defroster would not come on, so I tried the rear wiper and the spray/washer thing, nothing worked... dunno why, the back hatch will unlock and open as usual. Does anyone have a similar experience?
I havent checked the fuses or anything, its been snowing here all day...any help would be great

This exact issue just happened to me 15 years after this post. I just typed in my issue and these fantastic tips just came up. And they worked. I did disconnect my battery and I did roll down my window yesterday and didn’t roll it all the way up. These tips saved me from going to the toy dealership. A big thanks to whoever is running this site!!!

Had a different tailgate put on my 04 Runner. Defogger, wiper, and washer don't work. Window works fine,hatch opens and closes fine . None of the fixes I've read seem to work. I put a new wiper motor in. That didn't help. Looking for suggestions.
