Rear diff pinion and gasket fix = 482 bucks?

That's what my dealership quoted me. I've been reading a few posts here on the subject and this seems to be quite high.
This is for the pinion seal replacement and replace gaskets.
Any thoughts anyone?

Nope, just the seal and gasket(s).

I'm thinking about just getting a locker and putting it in myself. Thoughts? Something like this: http://www.northwestoffroad.com/parts/diff_dr.html

That seems high, I'd check with a local 4x4 or hot-rod shop, either one could do it.

Thanks Chris. I took a look under there and it looks like just the pinion seal is leaking. That might be a pretty easy fix, even for me to do. I might give that a shot first.

Maybe... If it's just the seal, great. I'd lift the rear wheels with the car in 'N'. Slide under there and try to move the yoke up & down/side-to-side. What you're trying to decide is if the seal just died or if it was beat to death:chair: by the yoke moving around as you apply and remove torque.


If it feels pretty tight then it's worth attempting to replace the seal. Get a seal puller and driver, it's money well spent! Buy the seal first then you'll be sure to get a driver/puller that will work on that size seal.
