Rear Disc Brake Conversion Kit

Working on getting this all installed. As seen in my previous post, I went with the Powerstop S4824A. Problem is, they do not come with a banjo bolt. Hoping someone knows the pitch, length, and size of the banjo bolts as the normal box auto parts stores are telling me they are not made any more :behindsofa::snacker:

After reading your post I ran out immediately to get the banjo bolts. Mine threaded up nice and easy. For reference, I ordered Powerstop rear calipers for a 1999 Mustang Cobra. The banjo bolt size is M10 x 1.5

For future convertees, you can also use BrakeBest (O'reilly's) part #H9479-2 for a replacement banjo bolt

Got this done and wrapped up. Definitely make sure to read the first post and check the brake pads that you get. Had to remove some material from mine to get them over the disc properly. Kit is really easy to install overall and very well put together with quality parts and hardware. I'll have a video up once I'm done editing it all with how to get it installed. Instructions are very easy to follow though, so isn't really needed but I hope that helps someone in the future:

After three weeks of driving (almost 700 miles) the brakes feel great! Slightly better feel than the drums but this is only seat of the pants testing, no before and after to compare.
Would I do this over again? Hell Yes!

This was one hell of a planned out kit. Will definitely be doing this to all my 3rd gens I’ll ever own. Would totally recommend for anyone that hates drum brakes or wants a legit kit to upgrade your brakes.

Status Update

I apologize again for my delay in posting any info. Things have been crazy between work, COVID, and the holidays and I haven't had time to be on here.

I think I've made it through all the messages and posts, I'll be replying to messages after I get this posted.

I updated the list in post 1 based on people who have shown interest in the past few months. If I missed anyone, please let me know.


Parts status right now:

I have about 9 kits that are just about ready to go out the door.

I'll be placing an order for more brake flex hoses tomorrow. I plan to place a large enough order to cover the rest of the brackets that I have in stock.

Once the hoses are made I'll have an additional 5 kits ready to go.

Parking brake cables have been difficult to come by, especially in large quantities. So I'm ordering what I can when I find them for reasonable prices. Trying not to order anything that would raise the price of the kit.

The hard lines for the brakes are made after the order is placed because they are model year specific. So please understand that there will be a slight delay to get those put together before the kit ships.

I understand that it's been a while, and some people may have lost interest or are not in a financial position to purchase the kits at this time. So if you're ready to purchase a kit now and want it shipped soon, please let me know so I can get an invoice sent out. I will prioritize the orders based on the list in post 1 as long as they are paid.

Here is part 1 of the installation of this conversion kit. This covers the installation of the brackets, calipers, and brake lines. I got the full meal deal from [MENTION=118207]midcoma[/MENTION], so it includes the hard lines as well as the soft lines. Thank you very much for the easy to follow instructions, good sir. I'll be covering the parking brake bracket and cable installation in the next installment, which should be done next week :thumb3:

Here is part 2 of the rear disc brake conversion kit installation. This covers the installation of the parking/emergency brake bracket and getting it all tied into the factory hand brake. Huge thanks for adding me to the list! I should probably mention I intend to lift my 3rd gen 2.5 - 3" from stock (depending on how much the OME 890 rear springs settle). In case this will affect the length of the softer brake lines for my kit.

It won't affect the length of the ones in the kit but it's recommended you get a new one that goes from the top on the frame down to the middle of the axle.

My 01 actually doesn’t have ABS. Toyota was weird with ABS during those years. Some got it and some didn’t.

I'm curious, my understanding all 01's went quad channel ABS with new M/C.
I have robbed parts from 01 2 & 4wd base sr5 ltd all had new Master and Trac Sys.
You mind taking pic of your M/C n posting.
