Rear End Housing Question

I need to replace the housing on my 96 4runnner 4x4......Does anyone know if the housing between a 4x4 and 4x2 are the same?

The housing should be the same unless you have the Elocker! You are just swapping the housings and not the diffs right!

I wish mine came with the e-locker....but yes im gonna reuse my diff and axles. Do you know if the axles are the same between 4x4 and 4x2?

Have you already found a new housing? It seems it is easier to get a full axle assembly than just a housing.

I found a 4x2 complete rear end from a private party as the same price as a 4x4 housing from a wrecking yard. That's why I was wondering if they were the same.

Yes the axle shafts should be the same! Unless you have abs then you need the abs housing and shafts!

Good to know.....ill pick up the 4x2 rearend this week and hopefully just have to put my diff inn and be back on the road.

Most of the Runner have abs! Why are you have to change out the housing?

Mine is bent...I thought it was the axle and replaced it and still has the wobble.
