rear end noise

I"ve noticed lately while backing down my driveway over a little ka-chunk or something from the rear end of my 2015 KDSS equipped 4R. I've got 3K miles on it and it wasn't making this noise until recently. Is this normal breaking in of the KDSS or something more ominous?

I checked my spare tire and it's tightly mounted but I did notice that my trailer hitch has some significant wiggle that sounds a lot like what I'm hearing. I'll take that off and see if the sound persists.

Check your spare tire tools are buckled down or possibly the spare tire chain that hangs could be knocking. Just a thought as I had same issue, was my changing tools in back compartment.

Rear end noise

Had rear end noise on my 07 v6 2wd. Took to mechanic and was informed bearings were shot in the rear differential. Apparently it a well know fact that 4 runners have rear end issues. Mine made it to 130k but very disappointed.
I am getting it fixed. There is a repair kit that help realign axles so that it doesn't happen again. Rear ends should out last the suv. Though Toyota was quality?

I've had several Toyotas, still own 3. Never had an issue with stock diffs unless they were beat on daily.

My supra had 420 at the wheels, beat on it quite a bit, diff is still fine with no problems.

My truck has seen lots of work, from rock trails to cruising down the highway at 80+mph for hours at a time. Aside from the shop that did a re-gear improperly (yep, wrong shim sizes) and losing the ring gear a week after the re-gear, its still going strong in the back end, that includes a Detroit locker.

Most diffs fail because someone tried to do their own re-gear without paying attention to the shim sizes they needed. "Close enough" does not cut it for toyota diffs!

So, where is your information from that you can state with fact that "4 runners have rear end issues"? I'd like to see these facts you speak of.

I had some rear end noise this morning, but then I remembered that I ate at Taco Bell last night.
