Anyone ever replace a broken rear window? I had a moment of brilliance this morning, glass place quoted me 425, or I found a place where I can buy the glass locally for 185 and install myself, there's a thread in the 3rd gen forum, idk if ours is the same basically or if anything changed, I'm not the most mechanically inclined also

Are you talking about the rear quarter panel glass or the tailgate? If the quarter panel one, don't even bother and let the pros do it, I bet the gluing part is a pain in the butt.

The tailgate window is worth a shot trying to replace yourself though, I would download the factory service manual in the sticky and give it a shot. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/92594-modifications-write-ups-quick-links-faqs.html

How hard can it be right? Worst case is you end up having someone come finish up the job if you can't figure it out :)

I'd get OEM Toyota glass. I had nothing but trouble with few aftermarket brands (including PPG) for 2004 4R windshield. Now I only use original stuff. But for rear glass you will likely be fine. GL

attach window to rails

I have a similar issue -- the glass is OK, but my problem is the glass became separated from the rails that look to be glued onto the window (and then fit into a channel on each side of the regulator). Any ideas on what to buy to fix that? The rails themselves seem OK, but I either need to get new ones (what part to buy?) or figure out how to glue them back on like they were before. Any ideas? Thanks.
