Rear Hatch Hydraulic Arms

Okay, So I think I need to replace these Hydraulic arms on the back hatch cause they seem to be struggling when lifting the hatch and holding them all the way up. I may also need to replace the hinges at the top as well. I'm a little OCD about some things and every time I lift it, it Groans a little which is incredibly annoying!!

look up lift gate struts, or liftgate shocks, or monroe liftgate, or sachs, or a plethora of other search threads. or even amazon

Find a junkyard for used replacement ones off a 2001-2002 4runner. They should run about $10 for the pair. They are made by KYB FYI.

If your pockets are deep, you can get new ones for $250 a pair with online dealer pricing.

All aftermarket ones don't have enough a#$ IMHO to keep the rear as high as it is supposed to be.

I bought two struts from Amazon, StrongArm # 4286. They're like $25 a piece. They work awesome. Once I pull the hatch open, it pushes itself to full extension, which was higher than my worn out OE ones ever did.

Awsome Thank you for the advice. The main thing I was worrying about is buying to cheap A$$ ones from autozone or something and then not having enough pressure to lift it properly. I would be pissed!!!!

If by some miracle you have broken the mounts off, I'd get those at a wrecker for sure. $250 for hatch struts is :der: IMO.

now i saw the ones on parts geek though, i would go with those, i bought one monroe replacement one for my wifes yukon and it was super strong that I only replaced the one.

If you have amazon prime, get them off there. You can return them within 30 days.

I've tried going to different suppliers here( NAPA, OReilly, Autozone,...) and none of them have the right ones. And no wrecking yards here have 4Runners for some reason, there's plenty of 4Runners on the road though. But since I just have to duck and my wife has no issues with it(read: she's 4'11) it's not a big deal.

mine do not like the cold. during the day my hatch stays up just fine, but in the morning it falls on me occasionally.
