rear hatch problem

i know people keep saying search but me and my father in law have searched and searched.

So we narrowed it down to when i open the rear hatch it pops the mpx-b fuse. so we swapped out the latch and its doing the same thing. none of the windows or anything works while it has a blown fuse. so we unplugged the latch saying its open and replaced the fuse. all windows work except the whole rear hatch. with that being said we bought it with the rear hatch not working. we have done continuity checks on all parts in the rear hatch. ecu and all. the only thing that makes it pop is the latch mechanism. even if we get the fuse to stop popping i dont know if its going to work.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could there be a short somewhere in the wires for the roof light, when the hatch is opened? This could cause the fuse to be blowing every time the hatch opens.

I thought of that as well. its all the way unplugged and it still does it. I did notice that the light doesnt work and the bulb is fine.

So we checked the dome light and we aren't even getting a ground to it at all. the other dome light works but not the rear. Does anyone have a schematic for all the wiring to the rear hatch?

aight an update. The dome light has power when you go to on but doesnt work if you go to door with the door open. It keeps popping the mpx-b fuse as soon as we open it. This is the 2nd switch(latch) we checked. we checked continuity on both latches. the first latch has zero open or closed. the 2nd has continuity when the latch is open saying the door ajar light needs to come on and the rear dome light comes on. But thats the problem right now is as soon as we plug everything in and the latch is closed it doesnt pop the fuse. As soon as we open the latch it pops.

this is really starting to get on my nerves. please help with this.

I just did some work on the rear hatch today also. My window, the wipers, not working, the license plate lights going crazy. Bought new terminals, nothing. Popped open the rear plastic on the hatch. Sitting right in front of me, was one of the connectors not fully clipped in. Popped it back together, all is good. Hopefully yours is something just as simple as that. Good luck.

We've had that thing torn apart. check all wires... nothing. We even tried the cheater way for the window to go up and down... nothing. I have no idea whats going on with this thing. We even tried holding the door shut and pulled the handle... didnt pop the fuse. As soon as i started moving the door to open it popped the fuse. WTF????? hahaha

I've got mine torn apart too right now, mines not making the dome light come on nor the door open light on the dash. I'll let you know if I find something out.

I'm willing to bet your latch is bad. Being exposed to the weather all the time, there's a good chance the open sensor in it is shot. I'm blaming that for my problems too.

If you find a used one from a part out, it looks like it would be pretty easy to install.

Just disconnect the cable here

and disconnect the wire here

yeah i got one from pic n pull but its doing the same thing. figured i need to fix that part first before i get the rest of the door to work.

well the only thing i think of is changing the window motor first. we tried to do the cheater method for it and nothing. not a sound. sooo there goes that also.....

were you able to figure it out? Same boat here

Rear hatch functions inop(main window switch, rear wiper, rear water). Vehicle was in a rear accident. replaced door and guts. Had radio antenna replaced and locks and alarm worked. the rear hatch functions still inop. changed out the rear lock, now the mpx-b fuse keeps blowing, making the locks inop again unless in the ignition is in the ON position. Close hatch, change fuse, locks work ok. open hatch, blows fuse.

Shameless plug here but it may be easier than going through a junkyard. I've got a 99 i'm parting out and have the complete rear hatch and body if y'all need anything.
