Rear Hatch Strut Options

I've had the tuff supports in subfreezing weather now. Would not recommend, it's like having my old struts on again. When it's warm they work great, but now that it's <30 they only get the hatch half way up.

Like strongarm, they sell extra strength ones, but I don't have those. The diameter of the tuff support strut isn't as large as the oem ones. I'm thinking of getting my original ones rebuilt.

I'm not sure about OEM stuff but FWIW I also have been running the Strongarm 6815 for over 4 years and the tailgate could still knock your teeth out if you're not ready, even in subfreezing temperatures. This is reassuring to read. I've got the 6815's on the way right now and I cannot wait to get them installed!

Yeah I think I'm about to bite the quite affordable bullet on these too. Tired of wimpy struts in 20s and below. At least I'm only 5'6" so my head isn't getting whacked too hard lol.

I am 100% saying this is not an end all be all, but it will definitely get you by for awhile. I still have mine setup this way and it still works when it gets cold out.

I did the nylon bushing fix on a friends 3rd gen just today. Parts are still less than $3 total at Lowe’s. Works great!
