Rear Hatch Won't Open....

Recently my rear hatch door has decided it doesn't want to open, (unless I disconnect the + terminal from the battery, then reconnect. Following the reconnection of the battery, it will open and close 1 time. Any idea's? Am I missing something in a reset sequence? I am assuming if it works once it should continue to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Does it fully close properly? My thought is that it's getting stuck finishing its close, so it won't re-open.

Thank you for your reply! I believe it is closing properly, as I hear it pulling it self closed, as well the light on dash indicating door open doesn't illuminate.

I have a 2007 4Runner and have a similiar problem. Once the weather turns cold (32 F or below) it will not open. This is the second winter with this problem. Yesterday I called the dealer's service center and according to them, this is very unusual and suggested I wait until it's cold and drop it off in the evening and they would check it out in the morning.

Have any of you had this experience?

Mine did this once just yesterday, weather dropped to a blistering 35 degrees in south Texas. The vehicle was off when the door stuck. By turning the car on it magically opened. I can't say if it will fix your issue but it worked for me.
