Rear Liftgate issues

I spoke too soon, that is one thing I didn't do is remove the plate frame.

Thanks for this, I'll check this out next time. The first time, I did try to reach this spot, and I unbolted the rear window motor, but I couldn't get it to slide down. If it does slide down though and the window follows with it, doesn't the window end up being in the way of reaching the handle bracket/assembly?

I had the window rolled up, and just moved it down a few inches. I guess there's enough distance between the bottom of the glass and the bolts that it doesn't get in the way.

if you find out that your handle is broken or have other parts that you find you need, shoot me a PM. I have some parts available from when i had to replace my liftgate because of minor body damage. I have a handle and window guides available along with other things.

Finally got this fixed. Tore into the liftgate guts again and drilled a self-tapping screw into the lip of the handle mechanism (the metal part that the plastic handle makes contact with), just to help give the lever a bit more travel.

After that I drowned every moving part and cable in penetrating oil and worked as much gunk as I could out of everything.

That seems to have done the trick and the liftgate works beautifully now.
