Rear Liftgate Struts Blown

Got tailgate struts replaced today, all covered by the warranty.
Part #: 68908-0W100 and 68907-0W100. Toyota's retail price is $166.45 each.

Had a chance to see replacement process and spoke to a tech guy briefly. Only one support strut was actually blown but another one did not have enough
power to hold tailgate open. Nevertheless 2 struts have been replaced.

Also rear window position doesn't interference with a tailgate lift. Lift works regardless of window position, at least on SR5.
 
My runner has 20k miles on it, made in Dec 2009 and has no issues with the rear struts. Also, to respond to Johnny, my window doesn't make any "funny noises" either ;)
 
Add me to the list of blown struts. They just stopped working out of the blue. Hatch sinks down slowly and shuts closed with a slight push. Brand new, I thought the struts were actually a bit too aggressive - my wife was barely able to close the hatch.
 
Just over 5K miles and having mine replaced next week. I too plan on installing the Gobi Ladder and hope the new ones last.
 
2010 TE with 19k miles and my hatch struts are blown. I started seeing oil running down the side below the left strut and 3 weeks later. Now I have to support the full weight of the hatch making loading virtually impossible. I will be visiting the dealership soon. I'll have them address the axle thump as well.
 
Just had to replace lift struts on my '10 4runner with 30,000 miles. Thankfullly covered by 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. The liftgate started to become slow then eventually there was no lift left. No hassles with dealership - took 3 days to get replacements shipped.

I miss the simplicity and functionality of the truck gate on my 2nd generation 1994 4runner. I guess guys who prefer truck like features have to suffer so that Toyota can sell 4runners to the soccer moms. Actually thinking of getting a 2013 Tacoma and putting a truck cap on the back bed. I want to be able to put my lab in the back and not have pet hair flying all over the interior!
 
Strut(s) just went on my 2010 TE with 40k on it. Hopefully the dealer covers it.

And what's wrong with flagging known issues? Are people really worried about other people not buying them over this?
 
My dealer says I'm out of warranty and tough luck. I mentioned that others have had this problem, he said he's never heard of anything like it. I said that maybe it was the Sequoias I had heard about. Nope. Siennas? Oh yeah, they had a recall for Siennas.

I totally agree that any issues should be documented because that is how TSB's and possible recalls get started. As a matter of fact I am currently using three TSB's to get the transmission shudder, hazy headlight and axle wrap issues resolved. My point in the previous post was not to minimize the blown strut issue it was to clarify a statement that, and I paraphrase, "They must be happening to everyone as the struts are on backorder." Nothing could have been further from the truth and bringing attention to the "non blown" struts was a way to counter that.

If you go on any forum on just about any product, read the issues and take them at face value you would never buy that product because "everything" bad happens to "every" one of said product. It would be nice to not have to parse the data to determine if the problem is real or just an anomaly.
