Has anyone made their own? I've been searching and coming up empty handed? Total chaos sells there's for 1300 that's a chromoly and toytec is 800, but come on how hard can it be to build those? And would it hurt to run a heim joint on both ends? 1.5 x.250 wall aluminum tube is less than 100 bucks for 12 feet?? Just think it would be easy to diy

It adds up quick. Remember you need the tubing material, tube inserts, heims, jams nuts, misalignment spacers for the correct width and bolt size for the factory mount, and bushings. Yeah you could probably do it your self for cheaper but then you need to figure out all the parts you need and do the labor yourself. Places like TC and Toytec aren't going to sell them for what it cost to make them.

I wouldn't recommend heims on both ends on of the control arms. The bushing will absorb some of the shock and i know J-Money tried it with heims on both ends and he said the mounting holes ended up wallowing out since there was no bushing to absorb anything.

I would just do bushings at both ends...heims aren't rebuildable and wont last long for a DD.

At the very least do something rebuildable like a JohnnyJoint

I completely understand that they can't sell it for what they make it for... And the TC ones aren't sleeved, they just buy think chromoly and tap it for the joint...

Thats a good point about the heims on both ends...

I will be using the ORW here local in Temecula and Aaron is a toyota guru!

There are a lot of guys that have made their own. There is decent amount of work that goes into these things. I made my panhard for around 100 bucks but I welded and fabbed it myself. I run heims on both ends of the panhard but for lowers and uppers I would go with a Polly at one end and either a Johnny joint or heim at the other unless it is a pure 100% trail rig.

And just so you know you can't really weld aluminum to mild steel. It doesn't hold. Your would want to use DOM at minimum. I used .250 dom on my Panhard and it is overkill. .125 would have been enough. This goes for the upper links as well. The lower definitely use a .250 wall. Poly bushings are like 16 bucks a piece and for a DD rig your better off going that route. Poly at one end and joint at the other. Your gonna be almost 350 in parts. And then more is you don't know how to fab or weld.

Makes sense. I would still do a tube adapter on anything .250 wall or less.

Btw, i'm not trying to discourage you. I think its awesome when people make their own stuff. I just don't want to you think you are going to save a ton of money and end up not doing so.

For example, i thought i would be able to build my rear bumper pretty quick and save a ton of money doing it. In reality, i did end up saving about $400 by building it myself but it took me almost 40 hours and its not anywhere near as nice as a fab shops work. I'm still happy i did it and i gained a lot of experience. i would do it again but it was way more money and took way more time than i thought it would. I mean i probably spent $60 in grinder discs :lmao:

I use 1-3/4" .120 wall DOM on the lowers but I could do it with .25" wall but the price goes up fast with that as the .25 DOM is considerably more than the .120 wall.
The uppers and panhand bar are 1-1/4" .120 DOM

I got my upper and lower rear control arms from Home Page, I'm happy with everything so far. I have the Sonoran Steel pan hard bar and it does the job well too.
