Rear Lower Control Arm

Thanks for all the great input! Well, here I am trying to take a trip later this week and figured this issue would resolve within a few hrs under the truck... haha Never that simple!

Correct, I have replaced with OEM if that is what the previous link directed to... I figured they were aftermarket but guess I messed up on the terminology. I could try the Whiteline thru Amazon I suppose. Did just pick up some Moog (laughed as I read the input on those!) from local autoparts to just replace this bushing quickly and make truck usable for a 2000 mile trip, started to destroy bad bushing and noticed the Moog has a bolt hole 2x the size of my bolt.... uuuuhggg! Soooo, those need to go back and truck is stuck until I can fix! I can get two new control arms via Amazon for $124

or get just the bushings for one side and struggle with this cutting the bushing out and using a press. I suppose these aftermarkets still need to be pressed in? But for $60 and hassle installing just bushing, seems to make more sense to order the complete arms for about the same price and limit my fun to just getting those arms installed... been using a heavy duty ratcheting tie down strap to pull that rear axle towards the front of the vehicle in order to install arms. Still looking around for a quick part but might as well order some new arms! Correct, should not have to replace these bushing more than I rotate tires!!!
 
One of the reasons, aside from quality, that I want to use poly bushings is that you don't need a press to install. While looking for solutions I found Chuckles video on youtube that confirms:

Ordered the Whiteline through Amazon and got a reply they don't have any more in stock... and their supplier discontinued it :-( So, good thing I ordered both the poly and the complete arms. Guess I'm waiting on the complete arms as I go check a junk yard that says they have a used one (wants $50 but seems a bit high for used rubber, especially when I can get a new one for $60, but may suffice in my temp need until the new ones arrive)

You can order Whiteline bushings from Whiteline as well. I posted the link at the top of this page.
 
Subscribed. My bushings are practically dissolved away. It seems pretty much every bushing on this truck needs to be replaced....

Let us know how it plays out. I just ordered from a different seller on Amazon and will report back how that plays out. I don't want to pay the extra shipping from AU if I don't have to.
 
Got the Whiteline W63378 from Amazon seller X Auto Racing. Ordered on Feb 3, received today, Feb 8. $62.35. I am little concerned about fitment. Now that I look around some sites saying 2003-2009 4Runner, but others list the 3rd gen. I'll try and get measurements and confirm tonight.

Did you install these bushings? Did they fit properly? If so, I'm planning on ordering the same ones. Thanks.

I haven't installed them yet. I ordered new bolts from the dealership and they haven't arrived. I measured them best I could on the vehicle and they look correct and they are the same part # MStudt posted above.
 
Did the drivers side 2 weekends ago. I was short on time and am glad I only did one side. It wasn't overly pleasant. Bushings fit great. I had a bear of a time getting the axle lined up with the control arm. Will rig a better come-along type system next time unless anyone has a suggestion on how to do that.

Will post pictures after I do the passenger side, perhaps this weekend.
 
Do you remove the factory outer metal bushing sleeve before installing the whitelines bc I noticed the whiteline bushings dont have an outer metal sleeve?

I did remove the metal sleeve. It was a good portion of the "rather unpleasant" part of the job. I followed the OP's and [MENTION=97483]Chuckles89[/MENTION] method of cutting through it and knocking it out. I wasn't able to push/slide it out like the OP and had to use a punch and chisel like Chuckles. I will try and push out the passengers side when I do that one and will report back.
 
...l'm under the impression the rear upper & lower arms can be removed/installed at ride height without jacking it up or removing the wheel? Planning on having a shop press the bushings out & wanting to know if both rear uppers & lowers can be removed so i can take them by the shop.

You are correct. The axle will shift on you a bit. When I did my I had to use a drift pin to line them back up. They may have shifted less then a 1/4", but just enough to not allow to bolt to slide through.

Did you raise the opposite side axle to get the bolt holes realigned?
