did you use a specific harness to wire this or did you piggy back off of another harness?

he said its tied to his switch pro's.


mine are ran down the passenger side of the rack, under the windshield weatherstrip and to a relay, battery, fuse, then inside to a OEM style switch. I bought some heat shrink fabric to cover the wires from one end of the roof rack to the other. turned out pretty decent. it was a pain shoving 2 wires into it though.

Built my own. Ran wiring along the 8020 to the driver’s side. Then down into the rubber boot/OEM wiring under the spoiler and into the rear left pillar. From there I ran the leads down the left side of the rig up and through the firewall to the Switch-Pros.

Someday I’ll do a “build” page.

I got a pair of Baja cornering lights that are 2500 lumens for setting up camp and backing down narrow roads if needed. I mounted them to a magnetic mount so they can be placed in a few locations or rotated.

The magnetic mount can hold 55+lbs

And with the quick release i can move the lights around or disconnect and move them to the front of my 4R and use them as ditch lights.

I am prewired for ditch lights up front with a switch so i can simply unplug the lights and remove them with the magnets from the rear then mount them magnetically to the hood up front as ditch lights. But i can also just rotate these forward and use them as ditch lights from the back since they are super bright. So incredibly versatile, i am glad i went with the magnetic mount and the super small bright Baja's.

I’ve been playing around with amber chase light options for traveling in dusty conditions. I think rubber covered magnetic mounts make sense.

Before a group trip, I wasn’t prepared to mount something permanent, so I bought an amber emergency light from Amazon for about $18 bucks. You can run the power down the side of the hatch to the rear 12v socket.

Amazon sells a variety of magnetic light bars.

I am also playing around with a pair of Rigid pod lights with magnetic mounts.

magnetic mounts are great, but it will damage the paint. our antennae mount is magnetic and from one week it marred the paint. its on the roof so whatever but just an fyi.


the pre wired spots and magnetic mount with the S1 is awesome though.

I have a set of Baja Designs S2 Flush mounts that I’ve yet to instal and originally I was going to mount them in the bumper but after seeing others who have done the same they leave a void of light in the middle. Back to the drawing board but if I use these I’ll be looking to mount closer to the center of the bumper.

I appreciate all the insight and info from this thread and the ideas it gives.

OK, update. Less impressed with the tnutz solutions, at least the hardware they come with. Here's what they look like after a week in Seattle (a few days of rain, a few days of sun). Both the bolt and the drop-in nut rusting, fast.

I also bought a few of these that are incredibly secure when you twist them in, so I think I'll be going that route.

They sell stainless drop in nuts and the bolts should be 1/4-20. SSO included some when I bought my rack and I used those to mount squadrons to my rear rack. no rust at all and its been holding well for 3 years.

magnet mounts for your lights is a really great idea! i'll be looking into this for sure.

That's because the screws are black oxide, which is just raw steel. If you're wanting something black that won't rust you need to look into passivated stainless screws.

That was one of my other thoughts. I don't have a roof rack but might consider getting one because that would be easy to add lights to.

If you have no roof rack at all, you could fab up some L brackets and mount a light bar between the OEM roof rack holes. I did something similar but on my DV8 roof rack on my JKU. Ran a 40" lightbar across the back. Look around at other vehicles and get some ideas of options. That's what I do and then design and have it fabbed.

The mounts have a rubber housing, but yes it can mar the paint a bit even though they don't move. Not terribly worried since it does not damage the paint and the flexibility is well worth the minor scuff marks it may leave.

You can always use a mettle mount with a sticky back like they use for GPS antenna mounting.
