Rear shock recommendations

2007 4runner 2wd V6. Currently running stock rear shocks in pretty good condition with Daystar spacer. Previously used Bilstein 5100 rear shocks but changed to oem because 5100 were too stiff and harsh with empty load in the back--we don't carry much.

Any recommendations for something a little stiffer as a rear shock but not as stiff/harsh as the 5100? Thanks!

what about adding some air bags? then you can keep adding a little air until you find the point that you are happy with.

On a side note, 5100's for sale? :)
 
True, however i read that the air bags may make the ride even stiffer, especially with no load in the back which is the way it is 95% of the time.

Rear 5100s have already been donated sorry.
 
stock coils in the rear? I've been happy with my Icons, but I'm also running the metal tech 2" long travel coils. Unloaded it feels fine, loaded it felt great.

The Icon's are better IMO. An inch more travel than the 5100s and my brother's FJ rode great with them in the rear. He swapped to longer travel OME shocks designed for Land Cruisers and now his rear end basically bucks up and down on bumps and uneven concrete. I've never rode with 5100s though.
 
I had 5100 then Icon 2.0. I hated the 5100, Icon is slightly better. I need to finally get the Radflo 2.5". I love my Radflo front coilovers, much nicer than Icon ride. It's a personal preference thing between Icon/Radflo I think though. My preferance is the Radflo.

I almost feel it has less to do with Radflo, and has more to do with leaving 2" shocks behind for 2.5" shocks.

These larger displacement shocks seems to be silky smooth when compared to its 2" counterpart.

That said, I have been considering a 2.5" Radflow non-rez rear shock for my 4Runner as a replacement to the 5100 and as a budget option to something like a 2.5" king that cant be had without a rez.
 
Rancho 9000 are adjustable 1-9 on the firmness, you can adjust it to suit your load...not lifting, just dampening. Fairly budget style...they work pretty good though, not sure why more don't run them. Maybe the name puts you guys off? Not sure I have seem any real hate on these, maybe just not enough attention?

Awesome, thanks for the info. AutoAnything is having a sale on them right now (lowest price Ive seen), a rebate for buying 4 KYB products, and no sales tax for VA, so Im probably going to pull the trigger.

What springs did you use for rear (if any)? Im thinking of just replacing with new OEM Toyotas

I just kept the stock springs in the rear. But I started pulling a heavy trailer and installed air bags in the stock springs (you have to cut the jounce bumper).
 
How about mixing shocks--say Bilstein 5100 or 6112 up front with the oem stock shocks rear. Has anyone run this setup?

I have the radflo 2.5's all 4 corners.. going on 3rd year now.. I have nothing but good things to say. I daily drive it and wheel it.
