Rear swing away tire carrier

I have a 92, what are the chances the mounting supports for the 2 brackets are in place? Is there an easy way to check?

They are not there. I swapped tailgates and added a stock swing arm assembly to my '91 using an internal support I welded up and maneuvered inside the rear quarter panel. It has held up really well and was pretty easy to do.

Yes, remove the panel and the storage compartment. It's tight but you can get back in there. I made the bracket to fit the swing arm brackets, welded the nuts to the bracket and then slid and fixed the bracket inside after drilling holes (using the swing arm as a template) in the body. Everything lined up perfectly. It's well worth the trouble.

Doing exactly the same thing, found a matching color tailgate and the carrier.

You are correct no mounting brackets. Its time to start measuring and fab the backing plates.
