Rear Tailgate Glass '94 T4R

So my 1994 4Runner tailgate window still rolls up and down. However, it is having some problems. One side of the glass appears to have come loose from whatever attachment connects the arm that moves the glass. I now only manually lower the glass by key from the rear because I have to use one hand on top of the glass to lightly push down the side that has become detached so it doesnt lower unevenly.

I've tried removing the panel from the inside of the tailgate to see what I could find but for those who know it gets pretty complicated once open. Anyone have any ideas where to go from here?

open it up and check the regulator and make sure that both ends are still in the track that is attached to the base of the glass.

These are some pics I took. I opened it up but I can't really tell. It looks like the left side track is disconnected from the glass, which makes sense based on the malfunction. Is there a way to open up the tailgate even more? there's not much room to work with

get a picture of the roller and seat that is on the end of the regulator arm.

i cant see anything out of place, try pulling the glass out and see if you can get it to work then, keep in mind with the tailgate down the glass wont go up or down until you lock the drivers side tailgate retaining pin

forgive my ignorance...when you say driver side tailgate retaining pin, is this referring to the tailgate lock which engages while the tailgate is shut in order for the glass to move? Or are you saying I can operate the glass up/down while the tailgate is lowered in order to better observe? If so awesome and how can I do this?

yup on both sides of the tailgate are the locks all you need to do is put a screw drive and push the latch down to engage the swith then you can raise and lower the tailgate and see what is going on.

found the culprit

All I need to know now is where I can find a replacement for this rusted part....it's just the left side. Any ideas?

I think I may have found it, but to verify is the part known as the "Weatherstrip"? Seems like this would be what the rubber lining is called, but looking at this diagram it appears that's what my rusted part in fact is called.

that part should be available from the local toyota dealer. when installing make sure to clean both mating surfaces with wax and grease remover and use 3m urethane adhesive to glue on. also lubing the regulator gears with white grease won't hurt.

Thanks andyman, I'll be sure to keep this in mind when I get the part. I will post back upon completion.

Edit 2/27/12: I clearly forgot to update this after the repair. It worked perfectly, almost a year later and no issues.

Do you know if that tailgate lift channel you got for gen 2 will work on the gen 1 it looks like it will to me did the window just sit in the channel after you put the filler in it?
