Rear Tailgate Rock Chips

After 20,000 miles of Colorado roads and backroads, my tail gate looks like this:

The chips are small and not really noticeable from 5 feet, but with a camera flash, it looks like hell. I previously had an FJ that drove the same roads and it looked perfect the day I traded it in. My working theory is that hatch design creates an area of low pressure behind the truck sucking in the dreaded Colorado rocks/dust. My proof is that I get about a handful of small rocks that accumulates in the lower corners between the hatch and the rear bumper.

I'm thinking about at getting some 3M clear vinyl to wrap the back hatch with, any better ideas? Fellow Coloradans, same problem?

make sure you treat all those spots before you wrap so you dont have a bunch of rust growing that you don't know about

Did you take photography lessons from Antman? Haha

I don't get rock chips back there but my liftgate does accumulate a ton of mag chloride in the winter, using the clay bar and waxing helps but I already have some rust spots. Never thought about wrapping it.

:thumb3: The best way to get the rock chips to show up on a picture, was to take the worst picture possible.

Tons of rock chips on the roads here from treating the ice and snow. I don't have any chips tho. However I agree the rear hatch/window and whole backside attracts dirt and grime. Always the first place on the truck to get dirty.
