freak accident!
So I found out what caused the uneven waer of my rear tires. It sounds freakishly strange, and if it had not happened to me, I would not believe that this is possible.
The last time I changed tires, the tire shop did not fasten the fasteners on the rear left side properly. I drove with a loose wheel for many thousand miles, with the fasteners coming off more and more. I was puzzled why the rear tires were extremely worn down on the inner side and could not find the reason. Then the wobble got so bad that I stopped on the highway and noticed that on the left rear wheel only two fasteners remained, both of them very loose. The other four had come loose and had fallen off.
It is weird, I know and I expect all kind of comments like "this is not possible". But this is what happened.
So I took off one fastener from each of the three remaining wheels, fastened it to the wheel where fasteners were missing and made it back to the mechanic.
The mechanic just had to put new fasteners on, and did not even have to change the bolts.
The main damage was one bearing that had to be changed, since it got damaged by the wobble. But that was all!
My conclusion: I will NEVER EVER trust a tire shop again! I will always carry my manual wrench with me in the car and check the wheels manually after changing tires.
