rear window switch problem?

2008 T4r SR5 v6. No mods to electrical. Today i put the rear door window down on way home and when I went to put it back up, it would no longer go back up with the dash switch. The key in the rear door will operate it up and down AND the FOB button will put it down, but the dash switch is non responsive, although the switch light does work.

I pulled the switch (Back Door Power Window Control SW - B1) and it is/was plugged in. I checked it for obvious problems with wiring etc., but found no issues. Pulled the switch and used the multimeter to test it. It appears to have function, i.e., just like in the 2007 EWD online, pin 1 is the common and pins, 3 and 6 are the switch poles. I get that pattern of continuity at least, 1 to 3 or 1 to 6 when switch is activated and no continuity when the SW is in neutral

So, remote and key switches work, but dash switch does not. Switch itself appears to be working. Checked the ACC fuse and it is good and nothing else is not working. Anyone have any bright ideas? I am stumped.

Does everything else on the rear door work? Wiper and defroster?

The bulb is turned on by a wire to the bulb, so not sure that means anything. Does the button still bring it down after you brought it back up with the key, or was it just that once, and now its done?

Try turning pressing the window child lock button on the drivers door. The one that locks all the other door window buttons. It locks out the rear window button too if pressed.

It’s gotten me on two separate occasions in 2 months of owning this 4runner. Even though I know it’s there, I think I press it by accident, then the rear window button “stops working” all by itself and stumps me for a few days.

Yes. And the window does work IF you use the key in the back door.

Try turning pressing the window child lock button on the drivers door. The one that locks all the other door window buttons. It locks out the rear window button too if pressed.

It’s gotten me on two separate occasions in 2 months of owning this 4runner. Even though I know it’s there, I think I press it by accident, then the rear window button “stops working” all by itself and stumps me for a few days.

I am going to check that, and if it is that I will feel R E A L L Y stoopid.

I did hook up techstream and the back door ECU self checks just fine and the active tests to work the latch and wiper do their jobs, but the active test for window up/down does nothing......will check the window lock out when I leave in the morning....

OK, suspense was killing me. SO despite the fact i have to be up and on the road in 4 hours I went out to the truck. It WAS the damn lock out. :redbrick: I even went through that in my head while troubleshooting, but i ruled it out initially as that switch had no unobserved access to the passengers or rear seats.....must have hit the lock out by accident.....ID10T error...

Lol...glad it was so simple! I’d prefer a duh moment to a more extensive fix any day.

At least I only took the switch out twice and ran the diagnostics, and did not start throwing parts (SW or Back Door ECU :-O) at the problem. Great mental exercise, that question "how can the SW at back end work, but not at the front end" even if the answer was "ID10T in the Mirror"
