Rear Windshield Shattered this morning

How does Toyota know you own one if you are the third owner? Have any work done at a dealership or otherwise registered it somewhere? I am just asking because I received the same notice and I am the second owner. I never did anything that would register me as a Toyota owner anywhere but DMV. Would they go through that avenue to find owners?

Through your VIN so it could be possible they tracked you down through dealership visits on file or contacted DMV's nationwide requesting contact info for VIN affected by such safety recall

Today I received notice from Toyota Motor Company.
The are extending the factory warranty covering the rear glass until sometime in the late April of 2018. There also seem to be a process for recovery of repair expenses with proper documentation. It was much like the dashboard notification I received a few years back. I'm the third owner.
I leave it to you to decide if that meets your expectation of good customer service.

they should just do a straight up recall on it but I guess they figure most aren't going to have to use it often enough to have a failure

Another one to the list
2007 4Runner, 122k miles
50 degrees outside, nice and sunny
Warm up the car to do the engine oil service at home.
A strong rubber smell from the trunk area. Turned the car off, open the back door trying to trace were is the smell coming from and boom, all the shattered glass hit my back, exploded like a grenade, debris everywhere.

The defroster was not even on. Just a regular sunny calm day in the central states.

Any idea where the strong rubber smell was coming from if the defroster wasn't turned on? Was it a burning smell like a short circuit?

Mine shattered a few days ago, got it fixed and the window tech didn't want to replug in the wires together since they were a little burned.

Guess I'll be cutting and resplicing new plugs? Is there anything I should look out for?

It sucks.. but it's what brought me here, so not all bad ;)

I'm still mad that I called my dealership a day or two before that warranty ran out, and they never called me back to order the replacement dashboard.
