Rebuilding the rack and pinion

So I need to rebuild/replace the rack and pinion in my 3rd gen. 4runner. With the cost of them anywhere between $350-$600, and a reseal kit is around $15, I am thinking of tackling this myself. I have a hone the correct size to rehone the cylinder, just need to be careful to not take off too much of the inside material. Anyone ever done a kit on the rack and pinion and was it worth it?

That's probably the one thing I've never rebuilt.

I was going to when mine went but found out that you need way to many special tools to rebuild the racks. Got my new one off a member on TTORA oem used

Huh, never tried to rebuild a steering rack...
