Recalled 03-09 4runner

So I got a letter from Toyota telling me that there is a recall on my 4runner. It was about the speed pedal ( not really sure dont have the letter with me).

My wife took the car to the dealership and apparently they worked on the speed pedal but she didn't bring me any paperwork.

Now I do feel a huge difference in my 4runner after it came back from the dealership. I feel like it takes it more power to get to 55 miles per hour and i feel like its tries to decelerate once i hit 65-70 miles per hour...

anyone experiencing something similar.

Honestly, I think its just in your mind. There is no computer update for the 4Runners like there were on some vehicles.

The only thing I can think of is how you place your foot on the accelerator pedal and apply pressure to it is now different than before and you perceive it as more required effort

I felt the same thing too after the dealer did this to my truck. It felt slower. I solved this by moving my seat forward to replicate the same position on the pedal I had before the recall was done. Just the way you put your foot on the pedal is different now, that's all.

I read online the other day about the Toyota recall "1.2 billion dollar settlement" dealing with the pedal/throttle issue they were having. From what I understand out of the article I read is going forward Toyota is going to install on new and on future models some device so there is no open throttle, like holding the accerlator pedal wide open, the motor won't respond to it. When you let off the gas the computer sends a signal to decrease speed, kinda like down shifting like in a manual tranny, let off the gas and you will slow down much quicker, like trying to coast to a stop, you not going to feel that, you feel like you trying to stop. The computer is going to do it for you. All this had to do with the stuck open throttle people complained about, Toyota is covering they're a$$ basically. I don't remember reading about recalling used models for this issue, but knowing Toyota with all their issue it doesn't surprise me they would do recalls.

I personally haven't received any recall from Toyota informing me, besides the floor mat issue. :shrug:

I haven't taken mine in for that recall, I do keep getting notices from Toyota about that. I put the Weather Tech mats in mine, I have plenty of room around my gas pedal.

BTW my notice from Toyota does state my issue is with floor mats.

I felt a difference recently since my SR5 07 V6 2WD pedal was shortened. I knew the T4R was not responding as well on about a 225 mi return (almost instant 450 mi “roundtrip”. After thinking about the conditions, I feel they caused the two noticeable factors.

1. More effort to press the pedal due to tired foot position on the shorter pedal (which I eased up and re-adjusted my foot to make sure it w/n slip off 2-3 times)

2. A very strong head wind on the return (225 mi) almost denied any instant acceleration above 65-70 mph. Going was a dream , rested, light on gas mpg and good acceleration above 65-70 mph.

Yea took me a while to get use to it. But it's fine now.

God only know just what those stealer dealer dis service dept. monkeys did to people gas pedals. This is why I have just pitched them stupid notices in the trash. My 08/v6 2wd 4Runner is doing just fine without any half brained nit wits from my dealers dis service dept. messing things up.:roadkill:

I have no doubt that people feel a change after bringing their truck in for this service. I swear mine runs smoother, has more power and is more responsive every time I wash it!

I went out and checked mine and sure enough they cut mine too. Point being I noticed absolutely no difference and i usually notice every little nuance with vehicles.

I think if you didn't know before hand what they were going to do you wouldn't notice either. It's all in your head.

It's all a lie! Don't listen to him! They not only cut your pedals, but they make your brakes pulsate afterwards!!! They retune the ECM so it dumps fuel constantly and your MPG go to 5mpg!! Then they screw your girlfriends!!
