Recommend good stereo system?

"Loud" yes, and varying levels of "loud", but I've never seen a loud that changes based on volume level since that Kenwood.

I just replaced my OEM unit with Alpine digital media receiver (alpine ute-42bt). I no longer use CDs and I have an iPhone so I have navigation, pandora, etc. The unit boasts Bluetooth audio, Bluetooth calls (comes with a mic), USB access for cords or thumb drives. And aux input for others (which I let my friends use on their phones.) the Bluetooth audio function works with every facet of my phone. All apps play audio through the unit with no problems. And you can sync up to 4 devices to the Bluetooth. Every phone call comes in clear and the mic picks up my voice very well) I mounted the mic on the dash (had to drill a hole in the back of the dash) but I was happy with the placement.
Installation was very easy, I bought the unit from Crutchfield and they give you everything you need for the install. The OEM head. Unit brackets worked great with the new unit and gives it a seamless look to the rest of the dash. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to replace their old unit but not go over the top.

Thanks guys! A lot of good responses. Sorry for not including more information. I guess I don't know what I want and don't know what costs what. I think some of the features I like are:
Double din
Touchscreen
iPhone interface that also charges my iPhone (if such a feature exists)
And bluetooth
And I'm just replacing the stereo. Anything out there that meets these features for less than $400?

Not trying to drive you away from this thread but did you try Crutchfield.com yet?
Because unless you live in the same city as Rhoov1 I'd suggest you check them out. Easy drop down menus, easy way to answer your question. They even have detailed explanations and definitions to help people who know little about car car audio.

Crutchfield really is the way to go. They may not be the absolutely cheapest available, but the saying "you get what you pay for" usually is true. Crutchfield will provide step by step installation instruction, most harnesses are included, as well as lifetime customer support if you have any issues. Also, if you have ?'s before you order anything, call them and they are usually pretty good about answering ?'s. definitely worth the extra few dollars

I agree with BrianSD_42. Crutchfeild is the way to go for internet sales as they are authorized to sell all that product, albiet a little higher price than some shops but they have a great selection, and have pretty much everything in stock. also with the free install parts and instructions they make it VERY easy to install. All of the major players (Sony, Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine) have double Din units that work very well and have plenty of features, once you get into Nav the price goes up exponentially. Basic units can be found for under $400 but units with built in NAV usually run over $700. Kenwood has a unit (DDX 470) that runs less than $400 and if you have an Iphone you can download the Garmin App and Kenwood link app and have nav from your Iphone to the deck using the Iphone cable, you also have the good Garmin nav on the phone all the time. There are options out there!

Personal prefrence would be the Kenwood units with Alpine then Pioneer and finally Sony. We have found Kenwood to be trouble free, easy to use, and packed with features. Pioneers Appradio systems are great if you are looking for more Iphone control than most systems will give, as well as a great AM/FM tuner, the down side to Pioneer that I have found over the years is that they are not as user friendly as others. I have owned or installed most makes and models of headunits and have had the least trouble with Kenwood. Currently i run a X994 in my runner, my wifes Lexus GS400 has the X993, and my fathers 02 TRD tacoma has a X597. Never had any problems with any unit and am planning on upgrading to a DDIN W/Nav hopefully soon provided finances allow!
