Recommendations on sliders with steps

I have been searching through the forums looking for an answer, but cant find exactly what I'm looking for...

I'm looking for recommendations on sliders that are good steps as well. I have two young boys and the climb into the T4R is a bit much. I want to get some steps for my '16 TEP w/ KDSS to make it easier for them to get in and out. I was going to get some N-Fabs, but I figured why not go big and get sliders. I just want some that are good for use as steps as well.

I'm leaning towards Schrockworks or BudBuilt. But before I lay down the big coin, I want to make sure I'm getting exactly what I need.

For the life of me, I cant see the value of nfab on a vehicle which goes offroad. Why would you want two big hooks hanging off each side. They are the dumbest design around imho.
 
My wife and kids love the shrockworks. Angle is perfect for both acting as a step and body protection.

They are solid. My KDSS lines were easy to get around. Drilling for the one hole that needs it was simple on the passenger front. Just make sure you have a near empty gas tank and you can probably do the install yourself.

Edit: My sliders only took 6 weeks or so, including the holidays, to arrive.

Demello sliders

I just installed Demello bolt-on Hybrid Sliders yesterday. The rock rails make a fine step. The also have the X-wing style which has a larger functional step that also serves as a bump-out.
No pic's yet but I will be posting them soon.
 
I'm in a similar situation, a 6- and 10-yr old and a somewhat short wife. I currently have to remove the running boards and trim if I want to go off-road, then put them back on again before my wife and kids start complaining. It's a huge pain. Unless something better comes along, I will get flat Shrockworks sliders w/ plates or else C4 with steps this year to replace my OEM running boards. The Shrockworks provide a more ample and lower step, while the C4's provide better leaning ground clearance with the tradeoff of a much higher step.

I don't know of any other sliders that are available with flat steps standard, but I'm sure at least a few of the manufacturers in this thread would entertain a custom build.

As sf said, if you have any plans to go offroad, don't do non-structural boards. They will hang up on anything and everything and may damage your truck. I have a slightly bent rocker panel because one of my OEM running board brackets slammed into a rock back before I figured out that the bolts holding them on could be removed :brick:

The mfr links are included on most of them with pictures as well as people on the forum who are running them. One thing that is definitely part of my considerations that wasn't before I started reading the thread is added weight, too...
 
Go Shrockworks OP, you won't be disappointed. (Other than the stupid wait time, if you aren't in a rush, wait for a group buy)
 
wish i could see more of these in person to see how far out they sat. took the running boards off of my Trail because they were more of an inconvenience getting in and out for my wife and it. all they ended up being were a way to transfer dirt to the back of our pants (or dress, in her case). i'd like to get something that would be a little closer to the body of the vehicle, but still have a bump out for the boys (8 and 11). probably end up with SW, since they're based in Houston.

The typical 2 tube angled sliders are the marquee set up. Steps and such just get hung up. They will be closer into the vehicle then the running boards, however picking up road debris and mud on your pants legs still happens. You can get sliders that are close to the body, which is something I used to do, but they dont provide the upper body protection like for doors and fenders that the 2 tube sliders do nor do as a good a job pivoting on boulders.

The SR5 went from the low-hanging Limited style trim to the higher clearance Trail-style trim. If you have a 2010-2013 SR5 you have to order lower sliders (if available), remove the trim and run bare (leaves a unsightly unfinished edge, IMO), cut your trim so the higher sliders will fit, or replace it with the Trail trim (very pricey).

I'm not aware of any rocker trim changes to the Limited or Trail models.

The front bumper had a huge makeover in 2014.

Didn't know these existed... Add them to the list of flat-oriented sliders that can be used as practical steps.

Yes, I'm aware that putting the outer tubes higher and closer to the body will improve ground clearance, but mine is a DD driven by the wife. She needs good steps. I really like the look of the C4's as an awesome compromise, but I'm just afraid the step will be too high with a lift.

I have De mello dominatorz that work perfect as a step. Mine were the first made for 5th gen's mounted on a trail with kdss. De mello doesn't have pics of them on a 5th gen but I can text pics if u would like , send me a pm with #

Schrockworks flat sliders with the tread. A little kludgy to put in but they are rock solid. I've had kids and 80-year-olds use them to get in the truck no problem
 
I researched sliders until I was sick of them. I knew I wanted to use them as a step too which would make it easier to get it in especially with a lift. I also was leaning away from bump outs for personal aesthetic reasons.

Understand that all sliders are deliberately different because of patents and other claims to original intellectual property. As such, some stick out further than others and most have angles to them where the outside piece is higher than the inside in varying degrees. Also, I found that most of these fabricators will custom make what you want.

To me, and this is just my opinion, Demello's were the best of all worlds in terms of function. They stick out far enough to make a bump out redundant and you can use the whole ball of your foot on the rail to enter and exit. The Shrockworks I'd seen are tucked in closer to the rocker a bit too much, thus limiting the amount of foot you can get on them. Aesthetically, I like the looks of the Shrockworks, but it was the functional needs that fell short for me IMO.

I've had my Demello Hybrid sliders for about two months now and I'm super happy with them. Good luck!
