Recommendations on sliders with steps

I went with the Budbuilt full tread bump-outs. They were very easy to work with, turn around was about 2 weeks. They held them for me until I could drive a day down there and have a local pickup. They said boxing up is just as much work for them as an install. That sold me, no scratches in powder coat or fumbling around with unwieldly things and having to buy beer to share with "help." They did the install, it only took about 40 minutes, and used a lift. I got to talk to Bud for a tour of the shop while the guys were working. He's an easy man to work with, a Toyota guy at heart, and had some good stories, not at all a bad way to spend an afternoon. They looked to have plenty of prefabricated parts around that they could put any order together in a couple days at most (plus time for out of shop powder coat). Absolutely a recommendation!

The sliders are great, I've used them for more than an hour of standing and working on the roof in various forms. It's very nice to have something solid to stand on to string xmas lights, or do a hand wax. There's just enough tube up front to use as a step, not so much that you bang your shins trying to open the door.

For the life of me, I cant see the value of nfab on a vehicle which goes offroad. Why would you want two big hooks hanging off each side. They are the dumbest design around imho.

I dont rock climb, I off road and have never hit them or got hung up on them... so the value is my kids can climb up into the 4runner..... pretty simple concept. With that said now that they are getting taller I am replacing them

They only had that particular setup for the 5th Gen in stock. Did you order the exact same sliders?

They work great as steps and are pretty beefy. Other than the wait time and using freakin stick nuts they are the best.

I have a slightly different need for sliders that I haven't seen covered. Our new 16 TE is my tall wife's DD. We live on a mile of gravel road. So I don't need or really want a step yet I need something to keep the mud and gravel off the sides, especially the rear door. Will shrockworks do that without the muddy pant leg effect? Other ideas? Checked with C4 and that might work but I'm looking for firsthand experience on keeping the mud off the sides. Had the same issue only worse on all my 4 door Wranglers. Thanks!

I really like my Shrockworks. I like the angle that puts them up tight to the body, but it definitely limits their usefulness as a step. Good height genes across the whole family make this a non-issue. Same wait time problem as noted above.

They have two configurations. One that is angled up and has 2 (or 3) support bars. That one won't work that well as a step. Then they have another configuration which is not angled up and has dimple die plates. That one works well as a step.

OP, another one you might want to look into is the Metal Tech sliders (not the OPOR ones). Those stick out about 6.5" and would work great as a step.

They are solid. My KDSS lines were easy to get around. Drilling for the one hole that needs it was simple on the passenger front.

What!!! With all the salt they put on our roads here during winter, my frame will rust like the one of a Tacoma... No way for me.
