Recommended Toyota Accessories?

Hi All,

Newbe here and hope to buy a 2012 Trail soon. Just wondered what Toyota accessories you feel are recommended when you buy a new 4 Runner?
I would appreciate a short list of your recommended add-ons which would be included in my final purchase price. I am considering the Trail without the bells and whistles (electronics). I'm on the fence re the DSS(sp) a rather pricy four wheel drive accessory.

What accessories, ie, floor mats, etc. would you suggest?

Trail without kdss is basically an sr5. I think the reason to get the trail is always the kdss.

Accessories from the dealer are expensive. You will be paying sticker for them.
Don't buy any extras unless you can get them for free.
Once you bought the truck, check out amazon.com or even eBay for OEM accessories for about 15-20% off the dealer price

Example: the TPMS sensors from dealer will run you $100 per tire, you can buy all 4 OEM TPMS sensors for $70 ion ebay

Liner for the trunk. But Toyota liner is not the best one, it can take some abuse, but it slides easily which is annoying. It's good only if it's free. I would buy a Husky or Weathertech one.

maybe the cross bars? wait, do the TE's have cross bars? anyways that's probably the only OEM accessory I would recommend. mats etc are best aftermarket.

I have the spider net and the cargo net and use them all the time. They work great for stuff like groceries,boxes or even mountain bike gear so they don't go all flying around back there.

In the past I had dealers throw some accessories in to cinch the deal.They get them cheap. If not I'd buy them off ebay or amazon for the best price.

Then tires since it's gonna cost you. You should probably hunt for the tires you're looking for and try to negotiate with the dealer to have those on instead of the stock junk.

A few of my necessities...

I did Husky Liners all the way back but have reconsidered and since removed the Husky sliding cargo tray liner and opted for the Toyota Sliding Cargo Tray Liner. It fits perfectly on the cargo try and allows the sliding functionality much better than the Husky which was for the whole rear not just the sliding tray portion. Cargo net envelope yes (for groceries,bags, etc.) but NO on the spider net for the cargo tray as there is currently no good way to attach it even though its a Toyota product. I bought the cargo area retractable cover too just so someone snooping can't see what I have in the cargo area if I don't want them too.

Vent visors are a must for me and I chose EGR in-channel, I also did the interior courtesy light swap outs for all bright white LED's on all interior lights such as dome, vanity mirrors, rear hatch, etc. Much better light than the factory bulbs.

Here's what I got for my 2011 TE...carpet floor mats and running boards. Why these? Because they came with the truck. The carpet floor mats were immediately replaced with Weathertech Digital Fit mats. (Carpets mats are for sale BTW, make me an offer)

I'd stay away from the cargo cover unless they have changed them for '12. There's a 6" gap between the rear seats and the cover, and btween the cover and the tailgate. People can look in the tailgatge window and see everything under the cover.

All the other genuine accessories are just bling and really do nothing for you. If you do want something genuine, do like the previous posters have said, get them online.

For this, you are better off getting a medium- dark tint for the back.

I did tint all around the first week I got the truck and I wouldn't have it any other way. But I've had tints for all my past vehicles so it's more of a personal item that I can't go without.

didnt see it mentioned earlier, oem mud guards I think are worth it. mine came with the roof rack cross bars. I wish entune had been available on the 2011, I dont really want to go aftermarket but I think I probably will have to eventually.

on the KDSS, when I was shopping I couldnt find a TE without the KDSS, I am sure it is worth it, but it put the price out of my budget, I went with an SR5.

that covers accessories, now options, I would try to get one with the power outlet as it is prohibitavly expensive to add afterward, that is the one option I wish i had.
