Reconditioning Leather Steering Wheel

Bought a used 2008 and the leather steering wheel has that bumpy finish vs. smooth. It is black in color and although not worn down it appears to be kind of dirty brown in the pits of the leather. I know I am micro analyzing the thing but if I wanted to best clean and restore what do you recommend I use? What have you done to restore or maintain your leather steering wheels?

get a separate cleaner and conditioner. You can always count on over the counter meg's products.

As far as daily conditioning, just make sure to use non-alcohol aftershave lotion. The residue left on your hands will keep the steering wheel as good as good for many years to come.

Most household products will work providing they're not too harsh. I've used dish detergent and hot water to remove the dirt and grease from exposure to crap from our hands, then used whatever leather care products I had on hand.

The wheel leather was shiny, dirty and looking old. To clean I ended up using a soft sponge and some lightly soapy solution. Probably would use woolite or something if I didn't already have the leather cleaner on hand from my old leather couch.

Was going to protect with some Meg's protectant but can't justify buying a whole bottle of the stuff just for a steering wheel... They have wipes now so I might get those at some point. Concerned the wipes will dry out over time in the container.

Thanks for the tips though - lLooks 100% better and like new. Cleaning is the main part anyway.
