Regarding the JAOS Rear-Spoiler- Need ANSWERS!

So i'm most likely buying a Jaos Rear-Spoiler.

Is this the cheapest place to buy it from? Burtman Industries

Questions:

1. If i buy it primed-ready to paint, is it easy to paint it BLACK that matches the original black paint on a 4runner, or is it smart just to pay them to paint it Black?

2. I want to buy the clear Len's with them (Does that mean its the lights that just look white?)(But light up red when you break?)

3. I also want to Put LED bulbs in it. ( i've heard when someone did this, a light popped up on their Dash board) So is it safe to do this?

4. If i purchase a 4runner that previously had a Original Rear spoiler with the 6 drilled holes, do I need to patch them up to be safe? If so how should I go about doing this?

5. Does it come with installing instructions? Is installing it easy enough for the average person to do? Or should I ask you guys how to professionally install it?

I would honestly contact Jason Burtman of Burtman Industried all of those questions. There are only a handful of guys on this forum that have one and they might not have all the answers you are looking for.

Paint color matching perfectly is going to depend on your 4runner's current paint. The paint might be faded some by now. If you want an exact match you need to have to color code to get the exact paint. If you pay someone to do it they can color match the perfectly.

The lenses will look white/clear depending on how you look at it, and the bulbs are colored.

If you plan on running LED tail lights and an LED 3rd brake light. You'll need to add a resister to the 3rd brake light. There are plenty or write ups on here about doing that.

The old model didn't cover the factory holes, but their latest model does. You can see pictures here. It's never going to hurt to patch something up. Condensation can creep in and cause rust.

I does come with instructions, and you can find write ups on here about the install too.

OK. I am one of the handful that has one, so i'll try to answer your questions.

I don't know how well it would match but Jason did tell me that they use Dupont paint and Clearcoat2. I want to buy the clear Len's with them (Does that mean its the lights that just look white?)(But light up red when you break?)
IMO the clear lens looks 'cheep'. but yes it is clear until u step on the brakes.

IT already comes with LEDS in it.

It DOES come with a pretty basic instructional sheet, but it is pretty difficult if you are only 1 person, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE STEP-DRILL BITS (uni-bits) otherwise it is impossible to drill thru 3 layers of sheet metal.Please comment below with: ( Your best advice,

When I got mine the paint was a perfect match, the LED lights work great, but the install was not a real easy. I would recommend having a body shop do it for you unless your real handy.

Im another with one of the spoilers...

I reccommend having it painted, hes very good with making sure the finish is top notch before sending it. Perect match for my "millenium silver".

Aswell... I second the "not so easy install" definitely have someone with experience do it if you have any doubts. That rear lift gate has several layers of steel to drill through and angles not easy to tackle/align.

The lens when ordered "clear" will still have LEDs that you can see through it that look clear too but light up red. Personally i decided a red lens so that the install looked stock ( like the spoiler was a factory install and meant to be there)

Thanks to the above.

1) Honestly, black is one of the easiest colors to match out of all the colors. If you are trying to save some money, you could paint yourself, and I only say that because it's black. That is, if you are good at it

2) The clear lens is clear, and clean when off. When the brake is applied, only then, do clear leds TURN RED. So, it's clear all the time until you hit the brakes.
