Getting a single din CD deck instead of a Double Din

Those God Aweful Headlight covers I had

Safari Light Bar I had

and most recently,

Not getting an Dealer Fuel Injector, and buying 6 from E-bay from a guy that is taking forever to ship the new ones to me......

I've had the truck 2 months and have a tidy little regret list already!

1. Spacer Lift (just terrible ride quality, ruins the rig essentially)
2. Removing my bumpers for powdercoating (I don't have the foggiest how to reassemble it)
3. Stripping front swaybar link when incorrectly installing my spacer lift

At my age (35), no regrets, since the 4runner has been paid off a long time ago and 90% of the repairs I can do for myself, so I dump my extra money into a Roth IRA or ETF savings account for a house on the water here (not cheap).

But if you are younger, enjoy modding the 4runner. One is only young once, so make the most of it. I had a modded Bronco and loved every minute of it.

Yeah the stuff you have is the exact stuff I originally bought. Absolutely loathed the 60027's and the 891s.

Now I have 890's and billy 5125's and its much better. Still have the 883/90004 up front and like I said, its soon to go also.

But seriously, only regret so far is having my Shrockworks bumper front hoop so close to the 4Runner - if my bed liner ever wears off / starts to peel then I'll cut it off and get a new one put on facing forward a bit.

1. I regret Toyota not putting a straight axle in the 4runner and causing us all the ridiculous maintenance costs of IFS.

2. Not going with the right lift kit the first time (PP springs with Trekmasters). Took two full sets of shocks and a total of $800 to realize it was never going to ride right.

3. Putting in a cheap deck and speakers instead of getting the good stuff first time around.

4. Living in the salt belt....

Getting the OME 906 springs for the rear instead of the 890 or 891 with my Toytec Ultimate Lift. I also regret rushing into purchasing my 4Runner, because I overpaid for it, and could have done better. Oh well.

Same here, I paid too much for the '97. High retail price, but to a private party. Lesson learned.

Deckplate and ISR Mod

It was cool at first, now the noise is just annoying. I put the deckplate back in, and I'll be putting the Intake silencer back in when I find time.

THIS. The deckplate is OK, but the ISR had to go.

If it weren't for my incessant need to save, I'd already have every possible thing done on the '01... but financial responsibility begins to matter around that 30 year old range. So, all in due time.

I also regret doing the isr mod, will be putting it back on soon. For the latest regret, it would be the 1.5'' spacer lift. Had to replace cam bolts that were froze $. Going to do the l/c and tundra lift in near future.

THIS. The deckplate is OK, but the ISR had to go.

I was thinking of doing the Deckplate and ISR mods for my runner, but it seems a good number of you don't like the outcome. Did any of you get some minimal mileage gains with this mod ? ( I'm getting 300 kms ) to a tank about 180 miles. That would be my only regret.

I watched a video ( Deck plate mod - YouTube ) and tried to decipher the differences in sound. Just wondering how much more annoying is the sound?

Putting a spacer lift would be my number one regret! Now I have bilstein 5100/eibach coils up front and waiting to install LC 7.5 wraps and LC shocks...already 100% ride improvement!

Hey man, havent seen you on here in a while. You regret the PP coils that Im now running haha. Was it that they were just too stiff? They seem ridiculously stiff for my truck having no extra weight added. To add to that my KYB shocks are also really stiff. I just ordered a set of bilsteins for the rear, and soon to get a set of LC rear coils and Tundra coils with bilsteins for the front.

My regret is that I wasnt very patient when I bought my truck. If I could go back I would wait to find a manual with lower miles on a 99+ model for the added options like better head lights, fog lights, cup holder, rear locker, bigger cargo cubby, twin power ports, wheels, wide flares, etc . . . And one that had no suspension and wheel vibration issues. That would have saved me alot of money in the long run
