Remote Start

I have a 2004 limited and just got my alarm/remote start installed. I decided on the Compustar (http://www.compustar.org/). I had their earlier model on another car, and these guys know what they are doing. Its a pager transmiter in the remote..so if you are like 1/4 mile away and remote start your truck, the Screen on the remote shows you if its started. same with being locked or unlocked..the LCD screen onthe remote lets you know so you dont have to guess if you really locked it or didnt.

Also they hooked mine up to roll the rear window down with button #3, and roll it up with another botton #2

Tis a little pricey though...everything (install included) cost me about $650...but I think its worth since the remote beeps and vibrates when my alarm gets set off.

ok fells, brands dont really matter. any noname brand of alarm with an auxilary output can roll the window up, down, or anything else. its not the brand name that determines if this can be done. i was wondering if anybody knows where the wires/module is in the truck.

FYI I just talked to Steve at Luxury Motor Works and they have a new system coming out next month (August) that will work with the 4Runner.

I asked if he could make the system roll the back windows up as well as down of the factory remote and I this responce.

Yes, you will also be able to roll your windows up and down with the new module.

I am the one that said that my installer got the back window to roll up and down with my aftermarket remote. I have no idea how they did it but all they told me is that couldn't figure out why Toyota doesn't offer the option as the wiring is there. The company that installed mine was Installations Unlimited in North Syracuse, NY. You can give them a call if you like and discuss how hey did it. Their phone# is 315-458-5000. once again, this is not "new" technology. this technology has existed for 10+ years (i managed a car stereo shop a long time ago, but recently found out they are not in business anymore). this new alarm system you speak of may be new, but the window technology is old. alarms have been doing this for years. you do not need to wait for that new alarm to come out to get that feature. ANY alarm with an auxilary output can do this George, it just depends on if you have a knowledgable installer. i guess im beating a dead horse asking the same question and repeating the same things. sorry for that

also, as for the post above this one - i appreciate all of your responses and input but if you call an install shop asking them to tell you how to do certain things, they will not tell you anything for liability purposes alone. i used to work at one 10 years ago. thats like calling toyota and asking them to walk you through fixing your own car over the phone. not going to happen. not only could you sue them if you mess something up, but they lose business at the same time.

are there any stereo/alarm installers here who know where the factory window timer is for the rear window when you press the "roll down" button on the keyless entry remote on the 02 4runner? and how to tap into it with an aftermarket alarm?

ohhh, ok. i gotcha now i just realized you were talking about using the factory remote. my appologies hopefully i can find the answer to my question here soon!

Viper 5501

Hey Guys,

I've got a Viper 5501 remote starter on my 2010 4Runner SR5. It has fantastic range and with the system you get a two-way remote and a one-way spare. You can even set a timer interval (i.e. 8 hours) and if you remember to set the timer start before you go to bed, the truck starts itself. One less thing to do in the AM before work, I call that a WIN! :

I like the system, but I have a couple of gripes. The installer couldn't figure out the rear window up/ down, and he didn't hook up the alarm beeper function to the factory buzzer. Not major, but I think I'd like to get those functions working myself (I am fairly handy with car wiring). The 5501 has a trunk option, as well as other auxiliary outputs. For anyone that knows, where can you tap into the wires for the rear window? It would be super easy to tap the wires in the driver kick panel, however some write ups run wires all the way to the tailgate (that would be a B*#ch).

Both the back door lock (where you can hold your key to unlock and the window rolls down) and the console window switch go to the back door ECU, so does anyone know if you can energize the window switch wires and the window will drop? I suspect people run the wires to the tailgate because the ECU accepts a window up/ down command while the ignition is off.

Unless something been changed recently, rear window function up/down can not be operated remotely unless you have JDM model.

What is a JDM model? My viper has available aux channels, and it looks like you just need to tap the circuit.

JDM - Japan Domestic Market.
4Runners there have additional Control Unit in the baggage bay and their factory remotes have function Roll-Down, Roll-Up the window.
North American model can only Roll-Down the window from factory remote.
The problem is that If there is no circuit, then nothing can be taped to.
