I have a remote start in my '95 5-speed Ranger. HAVE IT INSTALLED PROPERLY!!!
For the vehicle to be remote started, you have to go through a specific shut-down sequence in order to guarantee that the vehicle is not in gear. Here's the procedure:
Set parking brake, turn ignition off and remove key (engine continues running), exit vehicle, shut door. Once the door shuts the vehicle turns off and flashes your lights to indicate that it can now be remote started.
Because if you're out of the vehicle while it's running, it HAD to be in neutral.
Install is a little more difficult than any auto, you just have to connect door triggers to the remote start.
You must also design your own clutch bypass. This is not difficult, but you must be electrically knowledgeable. If your installer asks 'how do I do this?' Run.
