Time for me to address my windshield gasket issue. I want to go with the rubber gasket, my local window guy did not have any info on this gasket. When i goggle the precision wbl623 it comes up for 1990-1994 is this correct? Will it work on the 1st gen? When i have my window out i want to have everything ready to go, so i want to be sure i have the right stuff. Thanks

i own a glass shop in az and yes get away from the chrome moldings if you want to get rid of rust they are a rust magnet

i would suggest calling around for prices and with the following you could figure out a good deal and yes i would change over to a gasket. i would also recommend when you get this done take out the glass yourself (beat it out with a bat if you have to) that way you can inspect the pinchweld to see if you have rust and then repair it before the new glass goes in hope this helps

Nice before and after pictures. Where did you get the rubber gasket from? I called Toyota and they said they do not offer one for my 90'... Any suggestions would be helpful. Part # or place to purchase online ? ? ? I see the above mentioned part# but the yayhoos at the Toyota dealership in Oregon don't seem to know what that number is?

Get the windshield out and clean it up like everyone has agreed, but if that doesn't fix the lower (floorboard) leak look at the cowl. When my windshield was out I had them really work the body where it seats. Strip it, clean it, fix some bad spots, etc. They went all out when I had it in for paint. Got it home and IT LEAKED!!! I don't regret the work they did and the new glass, but my rusty floorboard was because of the cowl leak. Before I ever re-installed the cowl cover, I hit the seams in there with seam sealer, no leaks since.

Also, if you're getting a new windshield you might wanna ditch the crappy "rust-enabling" trim and go with a black rubber gasket like I did. Seats up flush so less chance of debris getting behind it and causing further rust. You can see the gasket in the after pic below:

I told my painter what I wanted (he was friends with the glass installer) and he took care of the rest. It wasn't a Toyota part though, it was generic. I wish I had more information but I don't.

+1 for this. Pulled my trim when the windshield was replaced and put in the black, rubber gasket. No leaks and looks better IMO.

When I had the local shop replace the windshield, they did the rubber gasket in the process. not sure on part number, etc but if I recall correctly it took a bit of modification to the windshield opening to fit it correctly as it was a part for a 1990+ model year. they were doing some rust repair anyway so it wasn't a big deal. I may be able to dig through some receipts for more info, but I'm not at home at the moment....

I also had Safelite install glass with rubber trim/gasket here

However, because I put kayaks on my roof and saltwater would seep between the edge of the trim into the cavity (gap between glass and surrounding) behind it and remain there, I went further and

Filled the Gap with Dow-Corning 995 structural silicone sealant here.

Most windshield shops in the U.S. use a urethane adhesive to attach the glass like discussed above. The trim is just cosmetic. Safe-lite tech carries an assortment of rubber "trim" in his truck. He would attach trim around the glass edge then stick the glass on with adhesive.

On the other hand, if you're asking about using the "gasket" as the attachment/seal mechanism in place of the stock adhesive attachment method, I don't know if any glass installer would do that.

I'm going through a bit of the same thing with my first gen I'm trying to fix up. . The metal trim was half missing when I got it, so I took the rest of it off. The windshield leaks at the top but what I can find, the windshield itself separated from the glue and pinch weld so the water that comes in along the top never really gets down to much metal. Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have to replace the windshield since it's barely attached to the body.

I'm lucky from what I can tell there is almost no rust to deal with. I pulled the vent cowling off for the first time since I bought it expecting the worst and didn't find any rust.

The safelite estimator put it at about $325 after taxes...is that about the going rate for a replacement with a glued windshield and rubber trim? I'm debating on just pulling it myself, cleaning it up, and reinstalling it myself. It's got a couple chips in it but I don't really care.

Exactly what I thought and what I did. Trim is purely cosmetic.

When you did yours, what did you do with these clips? Did you just remove them and fill the holes?
