Removing Airlift 1000 air bags

I've had these rear air bags in for about 2 years, and they've been nothing but trouble! (I put the bags on primarily to keep the rear from sagging so much when I tow.) The factory replaced one when it started leaking around the brass fitting. But the most frustrating issue has been the constant kinks in the air lines coming out of the bags, which causes leaks. I always leave 5-10 PSI in the bags, so the lines shouldn't kink, but they do anyway.

I even put a slightly larger diameter rubber hose around the lines going into the bags, thinking this would keep them from kinking. Nope!

The first time they kinked is when I had just put them on, and then went offroading a fairly aggressive trail. Other times they've perhaps kinked while towing, but not 100% sure.

So now I need to replace the bump stops I cut out as per the Airlift instructions - any easy way to do this? (maybe go with Timbrens instead?)

Tery, when I was thinking of putting 1000's in you helped talk me into it! Thats too bad that you're having problems. I don't offroad and bought the truck for towing but my guess is that your offroad adventures are what is kinking the lines. After seeing how the bags fit I decided not to articulate the suspension too much. Good luck with the bump stops!

I have had them in for about 5000 miles so it's not that encouraging that I haven't had problems yet. But they're great when I tow and haven't leaked so far. I also fed the lines through the frame so that snow/ice/carnage won't snag them. I wonder if that will make a difference in terms of how many problems I have. Sounds to me like offroading with these is a no no...which will be a bummer for a lot of folks.

Airlift Bags offroading

Well, knock on wood, I haven't had any problems with my Airlift bags and I offroad and "rally drive" aggressively on backcountry roads here in So AZ. Granted I do have the compressor mounted onboard with the automatic 5psi minimum switch. It's a slick setup and even fully loaded keeps the truck level. I have had no leaks or any articulation issues either. I just drove the Broken Arrow trail in Sedona in the snow and drove all the obstacles no problem. Hope my luck holds!
