Removing Door Panel - Help removing green clip from Door Handle

Hi I have a 1998 4Runner and I just bought some new speakers.

I ran into a snag removing the door panel with the green clip that attaches to the door handle. (The one right behind the door handle that controls the opening of door)

Is there a certain way I need to pull or push on it?
I didnt want to force it and it breaks.

If its the one I think it is, I leave it in place and pull the door panel around the handle. Turn the door panel straight up and down and it will slide right over the door handle, after everything else is loose of course.

Also someone said I could use a spackle tool instead of a door panel removal tool to remove the panel? Do you guys think that will work?

I dont want to use a screwdriver.

This is the clip im talking about but instead of green this guys is white.



So I can rotate the door instead slip the door handle thru?

You can use any tool you want for the most part, if by spackle tool you mean a putty knife or something yes that works fine.

Or you could just pull with you hands on the bottom of the panel and it will come off.


And I agree I literally just did this 3 days ago to put in front speakers and its so much easier to leave the door handle on, just wiggle the panel over it.

I just use my hands, start at a corner and just be gentle, don't yank
