Removing rear hatch carpet

Searched and found ten pages of hits on "carpet" but nothing on removing the hatch carpet. I am trying to install Coverking seats covers and they shipped the covers for a 4Runner with carpet on seatback. The problem is the covers really wants something to attach the bottom to. I think the best option may be to remove the hatch carpet to install the cover and the put it back. It looks like the portion on the seatback is a wood frame with plastic "pins". Pretty sure these will snap while removing. Anyone have ideas on removing the carpet temporarily?

I've never had a problem with the plastic clips. I've used a screwdriver, trim removal tool, and even just pulling with my hands to remove the seat back carpet many times.
