Removing rear shocks, an easy way?

I have a set of airshocks to put on, but they look like a PITA to get to the top little nut? any tips before I tackle it tomorrow?

I removed the bottom bolt and bent it back and forth to break it off at the top. Only took a few times to work since mine were the originals and pretty rusty.

Not as hard as it looks to get a box end on that top nut.

And then just get a big pipe wrench on the dust cover and use that to turn it from below.

Ive thought about a lift of some sort, but if I put on bigger tires itll have less power, I need all I got, haha

Sawzall Long torch blade. Cut as close to the top as possible. About 2 minutes each side.

You dont have to go super huge, I have a 1.5 inch body lift and it made the world of difference changing those rear shocks. Its fairly cheap too. I can direct you where to get them if interested.

That's exactly how we do it at the shop every time. Definitely the easiest route in my opinion.

On the driver side rear, I used the sawzall method but didn't cut high enough and had a hell of a time getting the rest of it out. :ybrick:On passenger side I held the nut with a ratchet and used a strap wrench to turn the shock. Driver side took several hours over two days. Passenger side took 5 minutes.

Sawzaw for me using the wood with nails blade it was 20 sec per side.

Reading this thread title made me cringe. I fricken hated replacing the rear shocks. Hope the advice given works for you.

I got a 14mm deep socket and breaker bar on the top nut and then just rotated the steel top boot with my big ^%$% Channel-locks. It snaps just below the nut in one pull. An hour to figure out how to do the first one, two minutes to do the second. I'll race a Sawzall with this method anyday (as long as the shock has a steel boot like the stockers).
